Summary
It’s nothing so straightforward as overwhelming darkness or despair or a desire to meet his own end. It’s a much quieter sort of hopelessness, a light being dimmed rather than extinguished. It’s the ever-present and irresistible ache for normalcy from a man who has spent his entire lives rather spectacularly standing out.
It’s not easy for the last of the Time Lords to fade into the shadows, not when the last of the Time Lords has a nearly childlike sense of curiosity, the clumsiness of a newborn giraffe, the fashion sense of someone four times his visible age (and one twelfth of his actual age) and an appalling lack of manners to boot. But he has tricks up his sleeve for times like this, not the least of which is his own personal cloud to utilize as a haven as he hides from humanity like the coward that he has become, or maybe the one he has always been.
