Summary
Buck startles awake to Chris prying his eye open. Chris’s concerned expression swims into his vision as both eyes adjust, squinting at the morning sun streaming in through the window.
“You’ve been sleeping for fourteen hours,” Chris deadpans. Buck is still half asleep, but he catches the slight waver in his voice, can see his eyebrows furrowed as he watches Buck carefully. “You went to bed at seven last night, and now it’s nine in the morning.”
“Nine in the morning, huh?” Buck’s own voice resembles more of a croak as he sits up, muscles aching and head still throbbing. It’s all a result of being struck by lightning and in a coma for a few days, he knows, but that doesn’t mean he has to like it.
But what he does like is the smell of Eddie’s sheets, the pictures of him and Eddie and Chris on Eddie’s bedroom walls. He likes the feeling of Eddie’s arms around him in the middle of the night, making sure that he’s okay and breathing.
“Christopher.” Eddie’s voice hisses through the crack in the bedroom door. “I told you not to bother him.”

He starts to pick at the label on the bottle, his face scrunched up in concentration. It’s one of Buck's many nervous tells, and Eddie knows that there’s something more to what he wants to say.
After what feels like an agonizing amount of waiting– but really is the equivalent of the time it takes for Buck to swallow another sip – he finally speaks up again, “There’s actually, uh, something I want to talk to you about.”
And those are probably the last words anyone wants to hear, as almost nothing good ever follows. Especially not for Eddie.
His mind immediately starts racing to worst case scenarios: Buck’s quitting. Buck’s moving. Buck’s-
“I think I’m ready to start dating.”
And, oh. That's definitely high up there as far as worst case scenarios go.

“Well, what did you do?”
“We, uh - we-“ Eddie stutters, “just give me a sec.”
And then - unbelievably - Eddie is pulling his phone out of his pocket. Buck doesn’t want to be nosey, truly, but it’s instinct at this point to squint at Eddie’s screen to try and figure out what the fuck is going on. To figure out why Eddie can’t answer a simple question about a date that he went on literally two hours ago.
Eddie unlocks his phone - his background is a picture of Eddie, Buck, and Chris at the beach - and swipes until he finds his notes app. Then he’s opening it, and, no fucking way…

Eddie rests the back of his hand on Buck's forehead, Buck's eyes fluttering as a sigh leaves his lips, and feels the skin beneath his hand, his brows gathering even more. "You're warm. Are you sure you're okay? Is it just nausea?"
It's almost like Buck was expecting him to ask this, because he loosely wraps his arm around his torso to brace it, and lets out a shaky breath, turning his head to Eddie and whispering so small, his eyes glassy and wide: "I don't feel good."
That's all Eddie needs to hear.
His face softens and he gets closer to the other man, chest almost plastered to Buck's bicep, and places his hand on the small of Buck's back. "What's wrong, baby?"
Buck hesitates. "It hurts."

Dating Buck was incredible and had many, many plus points. However, there was one minor thing that was irritating Eddie. He’d known, since before they’d become friends really, that Buck was a tactile person. And as best friends Buck had always been particularly tactile with him. It’s just that… he hadn’t really considered how that translated to them being boyfriends. And just how much Buck had apparently been holding back. Somehow, even completely dead to the world, Buck would wrap himself around Eddie and cling all night long. Most nights, Eddie endured the discomfort but when a heatwave arrived in L.A that rivalled Afghanistan heat he found his patience ran just a little too thin.
