Chance knows that all of the choices he’s made in his life have been for others. For his mom, for his sister, for the town to see him as who he was meant to be…
but he has never claimed to be a selfless guy.Or
After a summer of whirlwind feelings, Chance and Will spark an unexpected friendship. Will is trying to get over Mike, and Chance is aware that the feelings he has for Will might be one sided, still, he lets himself be a rebound, a stepping stone, even if that’s all he’ll ever be to Will. Summary
Willow blinked, a rush of warmth spreading through her chest. “A ride?” she asked, pretending to sound casual, though her pulse was betraying her.
“Yeah,” Chancey said, stepping a little closer. Her eyes glimmered with that mischievous, possessive heat Willow knew too well.
“My mom’s working an overnight shift at the hospital tonight,” Chancey added, almost casually, though there was a small, careful pause before she said it. “So it’d just be us.”The words hung there.
Willow felt something tighten in her stomach; anticipation, bright and electric.
“You’re really bad at pretending that’s not an invitation,” Willow said quietly.
Chancey laughed under her breath, rubbing the back of her neck. “I wasn’t pretending.”

Summary
“Do none of you care about the children? It’s a bachelor auction, and you, my friend, are a bachelor. Abracadabra, put your name on the list.”
“I can’t,” Eddie repeats. He can’t. He cannot. “I’m not.”
“You’re not? Since when?” Chimney frowns. “Who?”
It’s not Eddie’s fault that, at that exact moment, Buck walks in. So it’s not his fault that he opens his mouth and says, “Buck.”
Or, Eddie trips and falls into a lightly fraudulent HR-disclosed "consensual romantic relationship" with his best friend. Really, if you think about it, it's a win-win.

Summary
Before Eddie can think of any more excuses, Buck bursts back through the surface of the water with Eddie’s body in his arms.
Eddie looks down at himself, still kneeling on the dock, and then at what is unmistakably also him in the water. Buck sucks in a great gasp of air, but the Eddie in the water doesn’t. His head slumps limp onto Buck’s shoulder, and the puzzle pieces of the last few minutes suddenly fall into place.
Finding himself back on the dock with no memory of how he got there. Buck unable to see or hear him. Eddie’s hand passing right through him.
Oh. He didn’t make it out of the water. He drowned.

After an injury on a call, Eddie finds himself something he never expected to be...

Summary
“This is the most thought that anyone, of all time, ever, has put into adjusting a driver’s seat, Eddie.”
“Buck—”
“I’m serious. That rearview mirror has lived through so many angles and lives in the past six minutes that it’s about to start recounting its first-hand experience on the Titanic.”
Just for that, Eddie reaches up between them and tweaks the mirror again. A ray of sunlight hits it and bounces across Buck’s eyeline. Buck’s face scrunches up as he rushes to shield his forehead with one hand. It does not remind Eddie whatsoever of a small, bashful dog hiding behind its soft paw, because that would be deranged. He twists the mirror back into position.
“The Titanic probably would have gotten us to Nashville better than this truck.”
Buck’s indignant squawk rings out in time with the turnover of the engine as Eddie hits the ignition.
