“Mu Qing,” he finally calls, softly, almost weakly, that Mu Qing noticed something hidden in his tone. “Let’s say you like someone. And this person, whom you’ve grown feelings for, starts to like someone else.” He pauses and bites his lips in hesitation. “Will you still tell that person about how you feel?”
“I..I would,” he finally answers, feeling himself sink in a sea of irremediable ache.
Under the moonlight, Mu Qing could see Xie Lian’s eyes glow. “You would?” He asks, yet that glow quickly disappeared. “But...but if that person has already given their heart to someone else, you’d really still confess?”
Mu Qing nods. As he turned to look at the calm waters, he says, his whispery tone nearly inaudible,“Love doesn’t have to be reciprocated for it to be given endlessly.”

He turns around to face Xie Lian, however he was taken aback when he felt himself being enveloped in a hug. “Thank you, really.”
There it was. His heart was beating like wildfire again. He felt the other’s hand press against him, pulling him closer, even tighter, causing him to arch his back. Mu Qing froze, still and unmoving, like an icy lake void of all life—counteracting the raging fire burning in his heart.
This feeling of being embraced suffused in him something he couldn’t quite figure out. He knew nothing, but he was sure: so secure, he felt, wrapped in Xie Lian’s arms, being held by him as if afraid of letting go. Except Mu Qing perfectly knew that Xie Lian would eventually let go of him, so he wrapped his arms around him too, his fingertips quivering before holding Xie Lian back.
Your Highness, how I wish we’d stay a little longer like this.
