They reverse the magic, Regulus can happily go back to refusing to date anyone, I can go back happily dating Remus, and you can happily go back doing whatever you had planned to do this summer. Alexei lifted his hands up. “Well, what are we waiting for?” he shouted, gesturing at everything: the monitor showing the falling engine in real time, the countdown, the communications from the teams, the images of terror-stricken refugees filing into a temporary neighborhood in New Asgard, in Manitoba, in Ohio and Wakanda and China. Someone had set a fire in protest outside the United Nations. Smoke rose, obscuring the flags. “NOAA said this morning that all of the Eastern Seaboard needs to be evacuated. American refugees are flooding into Canada. Too many tensions, huh? Going to cause a war if we don’t do something. So what are we waiting for?”
“A vote.” Bucky’s voice was sour and quiet as he shoved off from the wall and walked over. “We’re a team. We act like one. So we’ll vote on it.”

Three months after New York was swallowed by a nightmarish blanket of psychological agony, Robert Reynolds was once again just Bob.
And Just Bob liked boring French New Wave and Depeche Mode and pictures of baby Highland cows. He stacked fries in his burgers like Jenga towers. He liked Jane Kenyon, Allen Ginsberg. Made a mean Lasagna alla Bolognese. Played guitar (kind of). Knew how to jumpstart a car (pretty well, actually). He liked chess.
He’d spent most of his life high, bridging sober gaps with odd jobs and side hustles and jail. He’d stolen from everyone who cared enough to let him into their home.

He’s still looking at the ambulance Charlie disappeared into, his mask half off in his face, and Captain Mehta is asking him, “Diaz, you want to ride with the kid to the hospital?” when the gun gets fired, only he’s been off the battlefield for over five years now and had to teach himself not to jump every time a door slams or Christopher drops a glass, and so he has the thought, the thought years of PTSD have taught him to have: you’re okay. Not a gunshot.
The spray of blood hits him, first. And then Buck drops like a fucking stone.
