'How many talismans did you draw up for this?' he asks, feeling sluggish and dumb as Lan Huan just chuckles, gently bullying Jiang Cheng past a privacy screen and towards the bath with a concerned crease between his eyebrows.
'Are you complaining?' Lan Huan murmurs, hands pulling Jiang Cheng’s collars open to slip his hands in, onto the sides of Jiang Cheng’s chest just above his ribs. 'You are freezing.'"

Summary
The lanterns hanging in the entryway to Lotus Pier sway minutely in the wind. They are old and heavy, bamboo wood panels framing delicately painted silk. There is a story in the art, Jiang Cheng is aware, but he has not looked at it closely since he was young enough to have someone to ask about it.
In the warm light of the setting sun, the art is faded and impossible to make out. And there is no one left for him to ask about what it is he can neither see nor understand.
The tassels brush through Jiang Cheng’s hair as he leaves.
Winter ends with Jiang Cheng tripping over the largest, most peculiar bunny he has ever seen in his life.

Jiang Cheng collapsed onto his couch at 3:00 in the morning, arm slung over his eyes, ignoring the sword still digging into his hip underneath him. Honestly, it was a miracle he’d bothered to kick his shoes off at the door to his apartment when he’d finally staggered through the door just a few moments ago, exhausted as he was. He’d slept with Sandu sticking into more painful places, and he just couldn’t bring himself to care.
But before he could fall asleep despite the discomfort of his sword in his side, he heard a new sound. An unusual sound, despite it being a relatively normal one.
The sound of a neighbor. When he’d left the apartment that morning (yesterday morning? whatever), he hadn’t had a neighbor.

Once a year, there was a special day wherein people of all ages would confess to the person they were interested in, typically via some kind of trinket that supposedly symbolized the depth of their affection.
It’s a vain, stupid tradition wherein the participant had more to lose than to gain. Jiang Cheng had never joined before, and he would be wise to not start soon.

Summary
Jiang Cheng isn’t actually sure what he’s doing with the letter he just wrote up, but he guesses now that he used up some paper and ink for it, he might as well send it off too.
He reads over it again, but there’s actually not that much to it. It’s just an invitation for Lan Xichen to come to Lotus Pier if he should find seclusion or the Cloud Recesses no longer to his taste. Jiang Cheng made sure to stress that it’s open ended, too, because he doesn’t want to pressure Lan Xichen.
Jiang Cheng would have loved to go into seclusion a number of times in his life—after Lotus Pier burned, after Jiang Yanli died, after Wei Wuxian died—but he didn’t have the luxury to do that. But Jiang Cheng also knows himself well enough to know that he would have gone mad if he stayed in seclusion for a longer period of time.
And he just wants to make sure that Lan Xichen knows that he has other options that are not seclusion or diving back into being a Sect Leader and so he sends the letter off.

Jiang Wanyin wiped at his nose, trying to compose himself. "Right." Several painfully awkward seconds of silence stretched on before he continued, "Forgive my bluntness, but might I ask what you're doing out here, Zewu Jun? Is the meeting over already?"
"I--ah, no, the meeting is still in progress, as far as I'm aware," Lan Xichen said, "but I noticed your absence and wanted to be sure you were alright."
His companion's fair complexion colored, his hands clenching at his sides. "I appreciate your concern, but I'm… I'm fine." His voice turned delicate, unsure, and a tangible ache flooded Xichen's chest.
"I apologize for being so callous, but I'm not sure that you are."
Or, Jiang Cheng isn't ready to take on a war by himself, and Lan Xichen wants him to know that he isn't by himself.
