Trent books himself a writing retreat for Christmas, so he won't just be at home, moping about not getting to spend Christmas with his daughter. It turns out someone else has somehow booked the exact same cottage - that someone else being Coach Ted Lasso.
The voice at the door has a marked, extremely distinct, American accent.
Trent’s entire body immediately goes tense. He stands up, so fast he nearly knocks the chair over, and stares openly at the man at the door.
“Now if I didn’t know any better,” says Ted Lasso, “I’d say that was Trent Crimm.”
“Coach Lasso?” Trent asks out loud, the words sounding as sour as they taste in his mouth. “What the hell are you doing here?”

"Trent Crimm," Ted says, not certain how the sentence will end. "I'm so fucking angry at you."
Trent blinks. He snorts. He drags his fingers through his hair and gathers it into a neater bun this time, securing it with the hair tie on his wrist. "Thank fuck," he says, his voice raw but honest.
(May 2023: This fic will not be updated further, but it will stay up for people to enjoy for what it is; short version the plan was they lived happily ever after. So, take the final chapter as the first step towards that.)
Or, the one where Ted Lasso learns that anger comes in many forms, and that's okay. And Trent finds his feet after leaving The Independent.

Trent looks down at his screen dumbly, the text from Ted still pulled up, then back at its sender in front of him. “What are you doing here?”
Ted places a hand on his chest, leaning back like he’s taken a slow-motion hit. His grin betrays the impact of the blow. “Ouch, and here I thought you’d be happy to see me. May not be a pizza, but I got here in less’n thirty minutes.”
Trent ducks his head to lessen the visibility of the smile threatening to split his face. He grabs Ted by the belt loop and tugs him forward, stumbling backward into the house with Ted in tow. Ted yelps, tripping over his feet and only just managing to catch himself, setting his hands conveniently on Trent’s waist.
“Hey now, didn’t even let me get out the part about being hot and ready—”
