Summary
Light does not attend the funeral of his internet best friend, L.
The truth is that it simply seemed so far away and he’d clung to that idea, to the impossibility that the distance would save him. That L could really become no one simply because he was far away. He hadn’t wanted to explain to his parents how much this boy had meant, how he’d been everything — they’d would not understands and he thinks it would destroy him to explain. Easier to pretend it meant nothing. Easier to let L slip away, unremarked upon.

Summary
Nine months after L’s death from ED-related complications, Light comes to visit L’s partner, Beyond Birthday, at their home in England. Light had been in love with L, but it’s hard to say what that means now. The three of them met through the ED-focused website Light owns and moderates. Light claims to have recovered but he hasn’t; Beyond never made any such promises.
Because it’s not fair, it’s not fair, it’s not fair that Light is grasping for the wisps of him when Beyond had all the rest, and hadn’t Light loved him the most and the best? Hadn’t he deserved him? But he swallows that down because it doesn’t matter anymore. No one has him.
