Summary
Robby took a sip of his coffee, letting out a dramatic sigh as he set the cup down. How did I get so fucking lucky a second time? It was his first day off in two weeks and he only had one agenda in mind. He glanced over his short to-do list and smiled, amused at how ridiculously simple it was. It was going to be a good day — or at least, it was going to be a long one. The kind he actually enjoyed.

Summary
The worst thing the universe can do to you is to let you meet the right person at the wrong time.
Or -- when Robby and Collins try to create a bubble where COVID-19 didn't exist, they weren't doctors, and maybe they could be...happy. Until they couldn't.

Summary
"You look beautiful tonight, Heather," he said quietly, his voice dropping to a register that sent shivers down her spine.
She met his gaze, trying to keep her expression neutral. "You clean up pretty well yourself, Robby. Almost didn't recognize you without the hoodie. Or that look of existential dread you wear during staff meetings."
The orchestra began playing a waltz, and couples moved to the dance floor. Robby hesitated, then extended his hand.
"Would you like to dance?”

Summary
He looked down at his hands. “That night broke something in me.”
“It broke something in everyone,” she said.
They sat in silence. Not together. Not really. Just near each other.
When she finally stood, her body aching from crouching too long, she said, “I keep hoping if I just keep working, the math will even out.”
He didn’t tell her it wouldn’t. That grief doesn’t tally. That there is no ledger that makes it worth it in the end.

Summary
"You ever feel like none of it matters worth a damn?" he asked after a moment. "Like we pour everything we have into trying to fix people, and they still end up broken?"
She looked at him, tears finally spilling over, tracking silently down her cheeks. He reached for her hand, hesitant. When she didn't pull away, he threaded his fingers through hers, feeling familiar and grounding.
"Yeah," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Pretty much daily. Especially today."
