Captain America is presumed dead. The Winter Soldier vanishes after pulling Steve Rogers from the Potomac, only to be dragged back in chains before he can even remember his own name.

He’s my friend.
Steve didn’t know what else to say. Bucky, his friend, was not okay. Well, that was obvious, and he felt stupid for pointing it out, but he didn’t have a better word for what was going on. Everything just wasn’t okay. He had gone back under ice just a few minutes ago and Steve was sitting in the room over, head in his hands, feeling completely useless. He couldn’t help Bucky, he knew that. There was nothing he could do to undo all of Hydra’s brainwashing, all of Bucky’s meticulously wiped and reprogrammed memories were untouchable for Steve. All he could do was take care of him, so he did.
