A lone echidna pushed through the brush towards a pristine lake, relishing in the peace for a moment before kneeling before the water gently. Taking extra care to not disrupt the grass too much during his rest.
Knuckles took frequent visits to the lake to refill his waterskin, but the purpose today was for a much different reason. A more personal, vulnerable reason.

Sonic lost. Robotnik completed his machine and was now sucking the very life out of the universe itself. Sonic had managed to get his friends to a parallel dimension so they would be safe, but had gotten stuck in the dying dimension all by himself. He knew he only had a few minutes left before the entire dimension ceased to exist, and he along with it.
So he sat alone, mourning what could had been... until he heard a certain familiar voice. It seemed that he may not have been the only one trapped here, after all.
