You want to scoff.
What? Did the kidnapper force her to exercise while in captivity and fed her protein? That sounds as feasible as the theory that the principal is the devil incarnate, which—while you see the resemblance—is impossible.
Too bad you don’t get a chance to ask her what happened. What a shame.

The same dream haunts her in the dark. Visions of her descent, her final moments, of another life perhaps. Her own death.
"Nightmare, darling?" A leather gloved hand carefully brushes a few strands of hair out of her face, pulling her from the throes of darkness, from the inferno that engulfs her.
Kafka.
Why is she here? Himeko pushes her away. This is not how she wants Kafka to see her. Whenever Kafka shows up, they fuck, and Himeko is not in the mood for that tonight. Some part of her wants more than that. But she knows that's not possible, after all, who would want someone who sees her own death whenever she closes her eyes?

“We’re going to be okay,” she says, and Leah has to stare at the movement of her lips to even catch the words. Fatin looks tired, looks drawn and weary, but she means the words. Leah can tell that much. “We’re going home and everything’s going to be okay. I know you did it to save me."
Leah smiles but it feels empty and soulless and she knows that it looks that way too. She doesn’t say what she wants to: that she would do it all again if she had to, if it meant saving Fatin. She doesn’t think that would go down well.
