Summary
While I mostly enjoyed The Rise of Skywalker, I noticed that sadly in his haste to get the movie to a working length J.J. Abrams seems to have cut the part where General Hux turns out to have hatched a dastardly, masterful plan to fake his own death and escape the First Order. So I fixed it.
Or, the one where General Armitage Hux goes "SURPRISE BITCH! BET YOU THOUGHT YOU'D SEEN THE LAST OF ME!"

Hux shakes his head. He licks his lips, hesitant, but he does not lie when he says, “I hate you because I’m not allowed to do anything else.”
There is no choice, Kylo hears.
Shame flushes Hux’s cheeks, regret chasing after his words the moment he let the fly free. Hux’s emotions have always been so easy to feel.
Five years, Kylo thinks, and three of those spent like this and he’s just realised that he should have had this conversation a very long time ago.
Five years after being introduced to one another, three after starting their affair, Kylo realises that Hux doesn't hate him, and that he doesn't hate Hux. He thinks it's too late for him. The Force, however, has a different opinion.

In the post-canon continuity of Last Jedi, Armitage Hux is having an extremely bad day- but it might all salvageable if a certain Resistance Commander is willing to follow through on an offer for Hux to defect that he's been making for twelve years.
Twelve years ago, Lieutenant Hux was the First Order's best sniper, and Poe Dameron was a rising star of the New Republic Starfighter Corps. A chance meeting and a willful disregard for each other's personal politics leads to a torrid affair- but good things can't last forever, especially with another war on the horizon.
