“Are you upset that we came back, or something? I told you that we’d find a different place if you—”
“Stop, Eddie. No, of course not. That’s not the—it’s fine. Really.” Buck pulled in a deep breath, shaking his head. “It’s time for me to find my own place. It’s a good thing.” He leaned forward to grab their beers from the coffee table, passing Eddie his. “Sorry for snapping at you. It’s just been a long day.”
Eddie nodded, swallowing hard, the animal in his chest retreating a little. “Yeah. Me too.”
“Anyway, I’ve got a promising tour tomorrow,” Buck continued, voice carefully neutral. “A friend of Maddie’s from nursing school has a brother who’s moving out, so. We’ll see. He’s about our age, elementary teacher or something, so the place can’t be that expensive.” Buck shrugged. “Got a pretty good feeling about it.”
“That’s good,” Eddie said, though the next sip of his beer tasted bitter on his tongue.or, post 8x18, buck finds a boyfriend, an apartment, and eddie loses his mind about it

“Sorry” Buck said, “but seriously, Mads, I’d know, wouldn’t I?"

Summary
He’d kissed Buck. The thought had plagued him so much in El Paso, he just got so caught up in everything, he'd forgotten for a second that—
“Fuck. We… uh.” Eddie swallows hard around the lump in his throat, jaw working as he lifts his gaze to Buck. Buck’s staring off into the distance, eyes wide, mouth open, solid as a statue.“...We don't do that yet.” Eddie croaks.
Buck seems to come back to himself a little, and his eyes snap to Eddie’s. They're intense.
“No,” Buck replies, a flush on his face, “No, we don't.”

Summary
An ache settles in Eddie’s chest. It’s there every time they hang up. It’s there when Buck posts a video of him baking with Jee on Instagram and when Chris tells him that Buck sends him ‘good luck’ texts whenever he has a big test at school. It’s been there from the moment he loaded the last box into the U-Haul.
Is that the question?
'Why does my heart ache when I think of him?'

“Listen,” Buck says when the silence has stretched on too long to bear. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow, alright? Get some sleep.”
“Wait,” Eddie says before Buck can hang up. “Just – take me to bed with you.”
Buck pauses. “What?”
"Not – Jesus, not like that. I just meant – if it’s bothering you to be alone, then you don’t have to be.”
“Eddie,” Buck says, filled to the brim with so much fondness he’s afraid he might burst. “You don’t have to do that.”

“Do you guys think I’m in love with Eddie?”
Hen and Chim froze—Hen’s hand tightened around the pack of gauze she held, crinkling the plastic, and the syringe Chim had been holding slipped from his fingers and rolled across the floor.
There was a moment of stunned silence between the three of them, before Hen broke it with an amused, “Good morning to you too, Buck.”or, a 5+1 fic of post-"Holy Mother of God" conversations, because it’s way more fun to imagine Buck not letting this go.

Summary
There’s a long pause before Buck answers. “Yeah, I do,” he says. “I felt alone for the first twenty something years of my life.”
“What about now?” Eddie asks, and he’s not even quite sure what he means. What about now, right in this moment? or what about now, now that I’m gone?
Buck chooses to answer the former. “I’m never lonely when I’m with you,” he says simply, softly.
Eddie, Buck, and six phone calls.

Summary
There's a beat of silence. A smile blossoms on Buck's face. It starts with a twitch at the corner of his mouth, then spreads inwards. He purses his lips, almost like he's trying to contain it, then gives up and lets it bloom into a brilliant smirk, crooked and devastating on his warm lips. He cracks open one eye, the left one. The smirk creases his birthmark. It's the same shade of pink as his lips, the same color as the lightning scar.
"Oh yeah?"
Eddie clears his throat and frees his own sandwich from its plastic prison. "Eat so you don't collapse. Save us both the trouble."
He can still feel Buck's eyes on him. "I don't break that easily."
Or:
Chris is 800 miles away, and Eddie's house feels emptier than ever. As always, Buck is right there, ready to have his back, to catch him without hesitation if he falls. This is familiar, this is normal, this is the way they've always been.
This is fine, until it isn't.
Until Eddie finds himself drawn to Buck in ways he never expected—ways that might not be so new at all.- Language:

Summary
After Christopher comes back from Texas, Eddie makes an important decision: he is not going to blow up his life anymore. He will not be making mistakes, he will not be screwing up, he will not be having emotional affairs with the doppelgänger of his dead wife. He is going to be logical. Make good decisions. Use the strategies he’s learned in therapy even though he’s complained to Frank a million times that breathing exercises only piss him off more. Still, he’ll do them, because he is a logical, rational person. Or, at least, he is from now on.

Summary
Maybe Eddie should have taken Tommy up on his “bros before boyfriends” offer and asked him to leave Eddie out of it — because now there’s this feeling like an itch in his throat. He knows he could just nod and stay quiet and let Tommy think what he thinks. It’s not really Eddie’s business. It’s not. But the base injustice of him calling Buck a lot is unignorable. And yeah, Eddie knows Buck’s history more than Tommy probably does, and he’s never dealt with boyfriend Buck first-hand, but the idea that Tommy could look at Buck and think too much just won’t leave him alone.
Eddie turns to Tommy. “Listen, the thing about Buck is — yeah, he can be annoying. He’s impulsive and self-absorbed and deeply insecure …” Tommy is nodding, and Eddie realizes he isn’t getting his message across. “But, he’s … he’s just. Good.”
----------
Tommy tells Eddie he's going to break up with Buck. Eddie accidentally talks Tommy out of it. It's a whole crisis.

Summary
The pillow was soft beneath his head as he laid down, the warmth of the blankets settling into his bones. The sound of Eddie’s soft footsteps down the hall was a reassurance, a reminder.
The next morning he would go to the loft and pick up a bag of his own clothes, and give Eddie’s clothes back. But if Buck was planning on bringing enough clothes to last him a few more days than necessary, then that was his business and his business alone.--- or, five times Buck finds an excuse to sleep at Eddie's house, and the one time he doesn't have to.

"Would you want to come over for dinner?" He asks.
"Yes," Buck says immediately, not even waiting a single second, and god, he is embarrassing.
But Eddie just smiles, all bright and radiant, and Buck feels his heart beat faster in his chest at the sight.
It's fine. Buck's fine. He's gotten his leg crushed by a ladder truck, survived a tsunami, gotten struck by lightning and died. He can handle maybe, possibly being in love with his best friend.
