"Is Haiji your best friend?" Tobio asks.
"He's…" Kakeru leans back on his hands, and then says, "my boyfriend, actually."
It just feels like something he wants to tell Tobio. His cousin stares silently at him for an awkwardly long time, but Kakeru doesn't feel uncomfortable. If anything, this is normal for Tobio, he's realizing. He does wonder what Tobio will think.
"Huh," Tobio says, eventually, nodding like this makes sense. "That's why you were being so mushy."
Kakeru swats at his shoulder. "I was not."
"Yeah, you were," Tobio says.
"Is that why you're too nervous to text Hinata?" Kakeru counters. "You're afraid of being mushy?"
Tobio's mouth falls open. "What?!"

In the spring following his first year at Kansei, Kakeru visits his family in Miyagi for the first time since he was a child. He's got a lot of worries over facing the upcoming year now that Haiji has graduated—but it turns out that makes him the perfect person to help his cousin Tobio understand his own feelings for a certain sunny teammate.

Summary
Not long after Agent Carter’s departure to assist Chief Sousa in California, Vernon Masters had walked through the doors of the SSR, shaking up Jack Thompson’s interrogation of Dottie Underwood and whisking Jack himself to Los Angeles to intercept Daniel and Peggy’s case involving the Arena Club. From the first minute he stepped into the LA Branch, he had a subtle feeling things weren’t going to end well. He just wasn’t sure for whom.
Along the way, he meets an ex-Navy nurse, now a lounge singer, with an interesting name and an even more interesting past, makes plenty of missteps, but ultimately figures out that being on Peggy's side is the way to go. His journey on the right path is cut short when a mystery man comes to reclaim the pilfered "M. Carter" file.
