Summary
It’s difficult to put a word to it, as there’s no tangible way to describe the manner in which the god of death takes its victims, but if Kyoko was to attempt to… she’d say she can hear the footsteps of the god of death.
Actually, even that’s an awkward phrasing considering that it’s more of a gut feeling than anything audible at times. But it’s a feeling different than any other she’s had. When she was young, she dismissed it as sudden pains in her stomach and took to ignoring it whenever it happened. But even at that age her bright mind left her unable to ignore the correlation between when those pains occurred and when someone around her would suddenly drop dead.
(The night her mother died, Kyoko had been struck with such an immense pain she had been unable to move for several hours. Her grandfather called it a panic attack, but she had been certain it was something different.)

Himiko insists on planting everything, maybe because Maki worked so hard weeding. Her red hair, which is much longer nowadays, is tied back into a ponytail, and she smears dirt across her face when she pauses, panting with exertion, and gives Maki a wide smile so beautiful that she nearly spills her lemonade. Each of the little plants is marked with a strip of cardboard. Each square has to be watered frequently, unless it rains. Every day, they’ll be checking on their little plants. To see their progress.

Five minutes later, as Sayaka props herself up into a handstand against the far wall of Mukuro’s room, she says, “I don’t think this is a good idea.”
“It’s pretty common knowledge, isn’t it?” Mukuro asks, filling a cup of water in the bathroom. “That a way to stop hiccuping is by drinking water while upside down?”
“Be that as it-- may, I think the water is more likely to go-- up my nose.” Sayaka sniffles. “Hurry up with the-- water, please, my arms are getting-- tired.” Sayaka has good endurance for such things, being an idol, but it must not be as good as Mukuro’s. That’s fair. Mukuro’s endurance is fairly unmatched, being the Ultimate Soldier and all. She flicks off the light in her bathroom and walks over to Sayaka, crouching by her with the cup of water in her hand. “How are you even going to-- do this?”
“That’s an excellent question,” Mukuro mutters.

Summary
A hand lands on her shoulder, and another one slides across her lower back, and a rumbling voice instructs, “Hold onto me, Harumaki,” and there’s a light, dizzying feeling as she is helped to sit upright. She can’t help leaning to the side, feeling the gentle squish of her headset sinking into Momota’s stomach, but his forearm under her shaking hands is steady and warm and she holds tight to it, trying to ignore the alarm sounds in her brain that are going off at his very presence.
Another click, this one softer and less obnoxious, and she squeezes her eyes shut as that headset is removed. The light loses its green tint and appears pink through her eyelids, making her scrunch up her face. It is so very, very bright. Maki shivers again in the cold and feels Momota’s hand rubbing up and down her back, coaxing down goosebumps and sending chills through her that are entirely unrelated to the temperature.
When she finally musters the strength to flutter open her eyes, Maki almost balks.

“Oh yeah?” Kokichi raises an eyebrow.
“I know when I woke up,” Kaede looks over at Rantaro, a meaningful look on her face. (Rantaro’s smile diminishes, turns into something more sympathetic.) “I broke down because I failed.”

"We both know you wouldn't do that."Shuichi raised an eyebrow. "What makes you so sure?"
The Supreme Leader could only laugh as he leaned his face right next to the detective's.

“Well,” Akamatsu frowns, a tiny crease in her bright expression. “Okay. I’ll tell you this.” She looks at Kaito, a mischievous look on her face. “I know what Saihara-kun’s secret is.”
Kaito’s eyebrows shoot up, and he leans forward slightly, pointing at her with his banana. “Really?”
“Of course, I’m his best friend,” Akamatsu shrugs, like this should be obvious, and Kaito laughs. She’s right. If Shuichi was asked to rank his friends, sometimes Kaito isn’t sure that Akamatsu wouldn’t be at the top of the list. Really, if there’s anyone who’d know, it would be Akamatsu. He just didn’t consider it. “So if you can guess his secret over the next, hmm, week,” she bites her peach. It’s a bit overripe and a bunch of bright yellow juice drips down onto the table. Akamatsu pouts at it. “I’ll tell you if you’re right or wrong, okay?”
