“I—” She takes a deep breath. Her lipstick is probably smudged already. Matthew is so close to her. Too close, even. She pushes her backwards for some breathing space. “I have to tell you something.”
Taerae is irrecoverably and embarrassingly in love with the girl she's been sleeping with. Though she knows it might not mean anything to Matthew, she figures she might as well come clean.

An obscene noise leaves Yuma's mouth a moment later, eyes meeting Jo's for a split second as he swallows.

"Why did you choose to follow veterinary classes ?" Jo asks, quiet, polite, head slightly tilted. She looks genuinely interested in the answer the other is going to give her and Yuma feels a slight warmth on her cheeks.
"I like cats." Yuma finally answers, like it's the only logical answer possible. "As stupid as it sounds, that’s why i chose veterinary medicine. Why did you choose drawing?" It's Yuma's turn to ask. She sounds a bit defensive, but that's just how she always sounds, and she hopes Jo doesn't take it to heart.
Jo's face flushes in the prettiest shade of pink. "I wanted to draw my cat …" There's a silence before the two girls burst into laughter, in sync.

Summary
“How long until you need to leave?” Yuma knew the answer, but he knew not to give away his idea to Jo prematurely. Jo needed to be gently worked into these things, allowed space to back out if the vulnerability became too much.
“Maybe like twenty minutes? Thirty if I take the bus,” Jo shrugged, hands awkwardly in his lap. Yuma thought him to be absolutely stunning even in these moments, where the sun was barely above the horizon and the apartment air cold.

“Well, I’m good at lying, so I’d do most of it,” Yuma says. “Maybe I’d tell people that one day, I saw your contact and hit you up out of the blue, because I always thought that you were attractive back in university. And then we went on a couple of dates, and I ended up really falling for you, and you returned my feelings. All you would have to do is look at me like you like me.”
Jo frowns.
“Yeah, that might be too hard for you,” Yuma concedes.

His gaze drags down Nicholas’ body and thankfully he’s still sober enough to try to think about very unsexy things like black mold and rat kings—anything to keep his dick down.
Nicholas hangs on to every bit of alcohol in his system when he asks, “Would you be interested in me if I offered you something else?”
Jo grins, leaning his elbow on the counter, taking another good look at Nicholas. “That’s where you’re wrong, Nicho-kun,” that honorific again, said in that annoyingly sultry voice that sounds like the crackle of a fireplace—deep, hot, “I’ve always been interested.”

“What are you doing?” Yuma’s voice is reedy, could easily be misinterpreted as irritated.
Thankfully, Nicholas knows him well enough now to tell the difference between actual annoyance and timidity disguised as it.

Summary
Jo has never been the best with words, but that just means that everything he says stems directly from the heart. Yuma treasures each and every word that spills past those perfectly pink lips of his, latches onto them like a man starving, like he can engrave them on the sharp knobs of his spine to carry them around for the rest of his life. It is like Jo pries open Yuma’s mouth with his words and breathes air directly into his lungs.
Until Jo showed up, Yuma hadn’t even realised he’d been drowning. Now, he finally knows to kick up to the surface and inhale the fresh air.
