There was a voice in Artoirel's head, a nagging little thing that told him she fit perfectly by his side, as if it was made just for her. They could while away the days like this, just the two of them. Ignore all the responsibilities the world keeps ceremoniously dumping on their shoulders.
But he couldn’t do that. Not to her.
The Warrior of Light was needed, always needed, elsewhere. If she occasionally sought comfort in the Manor’s halls, then he would not deny her. But he could not selfishly keep her, no matter how much he wanted to.
