Summary

[ “You scared me.” Zuko finally speaks, pulling her in closer.
“You scared me first,” Katara releases a sigh of relief, soaking in the faint, yet familiar warmth returning to his sickly skin. ]After successfully ending the 100 years war, the mangled, scarred, war torn world suddenly seeks guidance from a group of teenagers who have lost all hopes of preserving their childhood. Zuko is thrown into his new position after a painful recovery as the leader of a Nation that tormented the world and Katara finds a newfound opportunity in choices that would have never been accessible before. Despite their futures being prematurely thrust upon them they still have to deal with maintaining withering relationships between family and friends, resurfacing past traumas, and discovering words are futile when it comes to deciphering the complications that come with new crushes.

Katara spends her birthday alone on the roof of her apartment building, until a stranger arrives and offers to share his joint which leads to an interersting series of events.
[ “What’s your name?” She asks, confidence beaming from her pores after catching this extremely-attractive well-dressed man checking her out. Katara taps the tip with her middle finger, letting the ash fall and takes another hit, blowing the smoke upward into the starry sky.
“Zuko.” He says, accepting the joint from her extended arm.
“Katara.” She says, admiring the way he lifts his chin on the inhale and blowing the smoke downwards as he exhales. ] -

[She convinced herself that the interaction was simply her emotions getting the best of her. Convincing herself that he was only being nice because he happened to find her crying. But then he walked Katara to her room and didn’t let go, holding her hand as they snuck through the quiet dark hallways. He opened the door silently and stepped aside, allowing her to enter. He gave her hand one last squeeze before muttering his farewell; "Goodnight Katara, sleep well." Then he left her, cautiously shutting the door behind him on the way out. She chooses not to think about the way his eyes remind her of marigolds in a meadow at midnight. ]
