Summary
After a falling out with his parents regarding his future, Ren Amamiya enrolls in a culinary arts academy in the United States.
There, miles across the sea, he has a chance encounter with Goro Akechi, who’d left him with a single glove and the memory of a bitterly cold winter evening.
…He also learns that Akechi really can’t cook to save his life, nor can he afford takeout at the moment.
Ren, eager to prove himself beyond curry and coffee, needs a harsh critic in order to hone his culinary skills. Someone who won’t just nod politely and choke down whatever’s on the plate.
So, they strike up another deal.
Ren will prepare a new dish each time they meet. Akechi will taste it, and give his verdict.
If Ren can get Akechi to rank any meal an honest ten out of ten, then that means he’s succeeded.It’s a simple deal. And nothing could possibly complicate things.

The man points to the name tag clearly displayed on his shirt. Mydeimos, it reads.
Well, that answers that. Phainon can feel his face warming up—or maybe that’s just the heat from the ovens he can see in the back of the shop—but he pushes down the embarrassment. “So, Mydeimos—do your friends call you Mydei?"
He places the last of the muffins on his tray before really looking at him. “Some, why do you ask?”
Phainon can feel the smile on his face grow wider as he leans forward, tilting his head just a bit. “Can I call you Mydei?”

He reaches over without thinking. “Like this,” he mutters, thumb pressing against Phainon’s bottom lip to force the correct shape. “Your tongue here,” his touch lingers. “And don’t enunciate the last syllable too much.”
Or, when Phainon asked Mydei to teach him the Kremnoan language, he expected refusal. Much to his surprise, Mydei agrees. But as the words come easier, so does everything else Phainon was never supposed to understand.
