Summary
Ghost ends the Infection much earlier, leaving Hallownest with something of a society that must now pick up the pieces. Catastrophic resource shortages, an unstable political landscape, and a population scarred by plague leave every able body stretched thin. Still, Hornet is grateful for her mother's presence, something she never thought she would have. This is, of course, complicated when a chorus from Pharloom attempts to capture a weaverling. With the weavers as a whole too injured to run, and no longer able to hide, a new solution must be found: diplomacy.
Pharloom is starved for Silk, as it always has been. When a chorus returns, bearing news of Mother's wayward children, Lace expects things to stay the same. Unfortunately, these stray weavers are guarded by a Wyrm, and Mother is reluctant to challenge another higher being in her diminished state. However, she cannot simply let her children go. Diplomacy is the only option.

Summary
"So, let me see if I understand..." Lace took a deep breath, trying to control her temper. "That damn spider takes such poor care of herself that she went several years without molting, a molt that should have happened a long time ago. But she's also so stupidly altruistic that my request for her to eat and sleep properly in exchange for me taking care of myself is what made her molt finally happen?!"
"That's correct."
Lace took a deep breath once, then another.
“I’ll strangle her when she gets out.”
(Or, Lace discovers concrete proof that she is alive. Hornet teaches her to hunt. A simple question ends up changing the unstable relationship they had.)

A journey that is complicated at every turn by both Lace's unique existence and Hornet's own reluctance to assist in Lace's erasure.
