Summary
University hasn’t been ideal, in Charlie’s eyes. He has friends, he likes his major well enough, but too often do the rugby lads slam his shoulder a little too hard and too often does he feel the ache of distance from home. Fortunately, the best thing walks into his life- his new roommate, Nicholas “Nick” Nelson.
What started as a quick friendship quickly develops into more, at least in Charlie’s eyes. Friends don’t normally know what it feels like to kiss your neck, to hear quiet whines and desperate grasps, lacking discarded clothing. But they’ve settled into this new arrangement, a friendship with an asterisk that doesn’t go beyond hookups and the feel of Nick’s lips on his- no strings attached. Too bad for Charlie that he wants every string attached.

Summary
“I got another love letter,” Nick mentions offhandedly to Charlie one day when they’re eating lunch together at school.
There’s a brief pause. And then, Charlie responds. “Really?”
“Yeah.” Nick puts down his sandwich. “It just said I like you. And something about how it was weird that they did.”
Maybe it’s just a trick of the light, but Charlie’s expression seems to drop for a second. His voice is normal as usual, though, when he says this next: “I think what’s weirder is the fact they said liking you was weird.”
This is how Nick and Charlie get together: through a love letter.

“Am I?” Charlie said blearily.

Summary
Charlie's always been more of a writer, especially when it comes to vulnerability and his emotions. He can think up the most eloquent and lovely things but he can never bring himself to say them.
Nick was always the opposite. He always told Charlie exactly what was running through his brain and all of the words running through his heart.
This inspired Charlie to start leaving little notes for Nick to truly express all of the words that he could never bring himself to say outloud.

Nothing like suffering in silence by fake-dating your crush to try and prove to said crush's biphobic brother that the crush does in fact like boys, not just girls thank you very much. Really, Charlie has no emotional survival instinct.
