Summary
Bruce turns the safety back on, but he doesn't put down the gun. Instead, he keeps it in the air, aiming it steadily at the spot he'd just shot at. Despite the mannequin being very much not real, Bruce watches it warily, like it's going to pull out its own weapon in retaliation.
“Look closer,” Bruce says quietly.
Jason frowns, following the invisible red dot at the muzzle of the gun. He has to squint for a moment, trying to work out where in the stuffied body of the mannequin the bullet would've hit, until he realises where Bruce is aiming. Dread fills his gut, an irrational and inexplicable pool of fear congealing disgustingly in every empty crevice of his body.
Bruce is aiming for the head.
(When Jason is thirteen, Bruce teaches him how to shoot a gun.)

Clark longs to reach out and touch him, there on his cheek. He longs to run his knuckles over the softness of it ever so slowly, so he can truly feel the heat of his skin, and have that heat transferred over to his own body.
Clark blinks.

Clark shouldn’t be thinking like that. Do friends think of things like that?
A worried Clark invites Bruce to visit Smallville for Pumpkin Fest. Neither of them understand what it means until it's too late. They won't be able to go back.

Sukuna drives into him brutally and deeply, bowing his body above Toji’s to grasp his face. “Don’t insult me by thinking I would use something so ordinary to describe you,” he says, every snap of his hips scraping Toji’s back and elbows against the ground.

Summary
Later, when his mind was his own and the adrenaline of a resurrection bled into quaking fear, Jason would recount the events of the night in crystal detail. The impossible angle of Bruce’s batarang, the collapse as the floor fell out beneath him, the sudden pain of his crushed torso chased by a loss of all feeling.
He would understand that he had survived the unsurvivable, for the second time in his life, and would know the great beyond he’d tasted for but a moment.
Or: Jason can't die. Not by a bullet, a knife, or the drum-beat song in his mind calling him back to the grave. When a shoot-out gone wrong lands him back in the grave, courtesy of Bruce, Jason decides give revenge a second chance.
