War is a messy, bloody business, and it takes a certain kind of man to weather it and come out the other side stronger. You have a talent for horses, for understanding them and ensuring that they understand you. I have the same talent, but for men of war.’
Erik is recruited for the 7th Cavalry following the Battle of Little Bighorn by Lieutenant Ištván Tóth. Twenty years later, they reunite when Erik is a deserter from the Mexican frontier and offers his services as a horse wrangler on the retired Ištván's ranch.
