Summary
“Can I trust you, Levi?”, Erwin murmurs, after, head to his back and water running cold between them.
He didn’t use to ask, before.
“Who else would you fucking trust”, Levi gets out, skin breaking in goosebumps. Erwin hums behind him.
“Who indeed”, he mutters.
Levi understands anger. He’s intimate with it. He understands Erwin thought a lot of his sacrifice and that to have this opportunity at the expense of all that sacrifice probably feels like an unforgivable sin. It fractured something fundamental between them. Most sacrifices do. Levi did not save him because he saw some hope for them; world peace and a happily ever after. He did it because he knew, in his heart, Erwin was only one black hearted enough to see this through.
Maybe that’s love; to see the absolute worst in someone and see it as salvation, still.
It doesn’t really matter anyway. Erwin is still dying, just slower.

Chief Hakoda of the Southern Water Tribe,
It is my greatest honor to offer you marriage to a Fire Nation noble in exchange for peace between our lands and the land of your sister tribe to the North. We would offer the same alliance by marriage to the Northern Tribe but it is my understanding that their chief is mated and their only daughter was disposed of.

We are happy to share our wealth with the world, though underdeveloped villages, such as those of the Water Tribes, are not on our radar. Rather than liberation through conquest, we offer you riches and trade in this alliance as well as a promise to no longer attack your villages and in exchange you do not interfere with our conquests.
We have already sent several Fire Navy ships towards the Southern Water Tribe. One carries your betrothed and their guards and servants. The other three carry Fire Nation troops. This is just to keep things honest, I assure you, no attack will happen as long as you are there to accept your bride.

A gun shot in the middle of the night. It broke the still silence that had taken home in the woods the Howling Commandos called their home for the night. A scream and two gunshots, just as shattering, rang out in quick succession directly after.
A man with blue eyes groggy yet sharpened with worry sat up rod straight; all Commando’s in the small cabin they had found abandoned all following in suit. He didn’t wait for any of his team mates to wake before grabbing his red, white, and blue shield, the trademark of Captain America, and running out into the cold night.
