“Eddie showed up last night,” he started.
“Ok?” said Bev. “That’s nice.”
“No, like. Without warning. He just calls me from the airport. And all he brought was his laptop, right, but like he tells this lie about his bag getting lost.” Bev gave it a beat. He could see her perfectly, leaning back in her chair and chewing on the end of her pen, a nasty habit she’d kept since they’d met. He always knew in school that if he leant Beverly a pencil, it’d come back with gnaw marks down through the paint to the wood.
“Weird.”
Eddie shows up in L.A. in the middle of the night without warning. Things devolve from there.

Summary
This, I intended as the novel that Lestat writes some ten years after Blood Canticle. Subject to revision, probably.
It is set in Mobile, Alabama, in 2010 against the backdrop of the Deepwater Horizon disaster. Lestat & Louis attempt an "adult" relationship by having couples therapy & Lestat attempts being a Serious Writer of Serious Novels, to some effect (he also plays in a covers band). But really it is about power, of multiple kinds. For example, to paraphrase Kurt Vonnegut Jnr., capitalism is present in this story about insecure, wealthy, white men in much the same manner that honey might be present in a story about bees.
To wit, with regard to that: “it is always from the depths of its impotence that each power center draws its power, hence their extreme maliciousness, and vanity.” (Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in Capitalism and Schizophrenia: A Thousand Plateaus). And that is what happens in this story, in between all the expansive long-take nothing, constant hipsterism and the periodic sexing and angsting.

Disclaimer: I stole frequently and unrepentantly from Joss Whedon and the makers of various horror movies throughout this whole series. Also I am not an expert on the Vatican or medical-type things, so please accept my apologies in advance for all the wild inaccuracies I am sure you are about to encounter. If everyone could just assume this is the Magical Made-Up Vatican, you know, like the religious institution version of those tour buses that drive themselves and don't carry anyone but the band, that would be awesome.
