In Dongcheon, nothing was private. Rumors ran along the walls like rats: who was sleeping with whom, who had fought someone else, or who was untrustworthy. Marriages and births were reported religiously to Mujin, because his blessing and approval were needed, because Dongcheon promised to protect his people. Donghoon had managed to be an exception for seventeen years. Taeju also managed to do this for four years.
Where: Donghoon hid Jiwoo's existence out of fear that Dongcheon and Mujin would descend on his daughter if they found out he was an undercover police officer. Taeju hides his daughter's existence because he doesn't know how to talk to Mujin anymore.

“Someone's in a bad mood,” Jiwoo remarks, dropping her bag beside him and shrugging out of her jacket.
Gangjae looks up from wrapping tape around his knuckles, tone deceptively light. “What makes you say that?”
Jiwoo stares at him, unimpressed. She doesn't bother gracing him with a reply, just rolls her eyes and starts stretching. In the few years that they’ve come to know each other, Jiwoo has been getting increasingly good at reading his tells. Gangjae is not sure if he likes that or not.

Mujin has his shirt halfway unbuttoned before he realises Taeju hasn’t moved from the doorway. He pauses and raises his brows at Taeju, a silent question.
“I’ll keep watch, sir.”
Mujin’s lips quirk, “Keep watch on me in my own bathhouse?”
Taeju gulps, quietly embarrassed. Not many know of this particular business of Mujin’s and the private wing is even lesser known, never mind the implications of watching his boss in a bathhouse. But still. “You never know what might happen.”
[Set before the events of the show, Taeju is still relatively new to the gang and Mujin does his best to take care of him.]
