With the Calamity vanquished, Zelda is free to spend more time with her beloved Chosen Knight. Together they set out on what was meant to be a peaceful little journey to Akkala, but the wilds of Hyrule are far from safe. All too soon, bliss becomes a desperate fight for survival, alone and without hope of rescue. Sweet, fluffy Zelink; rated T for grave injuries. Originally posted on FF.net some years ago (much cringe; I've grown a lot as a writer since then!) NOT a Tears of the Kingdom story.

“What if we compromised, and made an attempt to obtain reparations and a peace treaty?” Zelda made a point to draw her eyes across each man seated at the table.
Her father’s hand stilled at his beard, face cast as if shadowed by an autumn storm. Finally, after what felt like years of silence, he stroked his beard thoughtfully.

“The Princess left me with a handful of words for you, Hero.” Like a bow drawn to tension, his focus snaps back into place. “If you’d like to hear them.” Sheep’s clothing is shed so easily, wool and the soft scent of lanolin left behind when Link steps forward, eyes narrowed. Impa is clearly smart, should already know the answer that builds behind his tongue. “But you need to be willing to risk your life for her before I share them.”
He almost rolls his eyes.

Summary
In nearly every way (except the most notable), the Princess of Hyrule was the Goddess incarnate. For that reason alone, it was a little ingenious for the King to offer up his daughter’s hand to whoever was able to pull the sword.
Link hadn’t meant to pull the sword. He planned to watch as his comrades pulled with all their might, perhaps even tease a few about how it was all for the better that the sword didn’t budge, because surely no Princess could ever love their ugly mugs, and then get into a good old-fashioned wrestling match with their bruised egos after one too many jokes. But it hadn’t mattered what he had in mind; Link’s plans be damned. The Goddess had already plucked him out of obscurity and set him along Her own path.
