“So tell the punk,” Clarisse said. “Or don’t. But I don’t see why I need to get involved.” She turned to leave. That involved substantially less pointing and laughing than Annabeth had expected. It still wasn’t ideal.
“Wait.” Annabeth said. “Remember that time I distracted all of Ares cabin so you and Chris could—”
Before she can finish, not that she wants to, Clarisse turns to her with a gleam in her eye. “Seriously? You’re calling that in now? You’ve been holding that one over me for literal years.”
“Yes,” Annabeth sighed. “We’ll be even.”
“Now, I don’t know about that one, wise girl. See, that was one stolen standard and only four hours of your time. You want me to what, pretend to be your girlfriend so Jackson stops trying to set you up? For the rest of summer?”
Now, Annabeth figured, was probably not a good time to mention plan Gamma, subhead four.

Summary
Soon enough one cold girl on the cold ground became, well, one cold girl on the ground. But Part of Her was gone. Or combined, or whatever. Madeline took the moment to climb back into her sleeping bag. She was still cold. Madeline thought about Part of Her, and what comes to her mind is that moment she hugged Part of Her after the chase through the bottom of the mountain. She didn’t remember the destruction, or her scrapes and bruises. She remembered tenderly wrapping a crying girl in her arms. Her eyes were glowing red, but they were watery, and the tears threatening to spill out gave her an aspect of humanity.
When she promised to leave Madeline alone, voice broken, Madeline felt empty. Worse, she felt a void, a black hole inside her consuming her from the inside. That was her fault. She made Part of Her sound like that. After their first heartfelt talk, they had at least worked that out. They hugged it out, because Madeline liked hugs, and because Part of Her was Madeline, and then the two of them merged for the first time. It was an amazing, indescribable feeling. It was beautiful, fulfilling in a way she had never really felt before.

And when Madeline smiled at her, with that smile, she fell.
Madeline leaned in, just a bit. Her eyes flickered down to Lyn’s lips again. “Can I?” Madeline whispered the question in a low, soft tone of voice that made Lyn turn to mush.
“We shouldn’t,” Lyn murmured. She was supposed to be the pragmatic part of Madeline. This was a terrible idea, frankly. She couldn’t leave the mountain. She was actually Part of Madeline. A therapist would probably have a field day with the situation.
“We shouldn’t,” Madeline agreed.
After a moment, Lyn nodded slightly.
Madeline leaned in and kissed her.

“Hey, you there?"
The woman in red was standing in front of me, snapping her fingers in my face. She was wearing an annoyed expression. Apparently, the last guy had escaped out the door. I wished I could do the same thing.
“Uh, Hello. Welcome to Central Coffee. How can I help you?” Somehow, I managed to get it all out without stuttering, although they could definitely hear the nervousness in my tone, judging by the high, fake laughter of the green and yellow dressed girls. The one dressed in red leant over the counter, making it clear she was several inches taller than I was. She read my name tag.
“Why hello there, … Ronnie. You don't mind if I call you Ronnie, do you?”
Or, I noticed no one has written a coffeeshop au yet for this fandom and I felt the urge to correct this grievous error. Updates Thursdays

Cressida Cowper was not a nice lady. She was not kind or quiet or demure, the way a lady ought to be. She didn't shine. She didn't curtsey deep enough. Her styles were too noisy. Her sleeves too big. And she was downright cruel.
These are some of the reasons she'd been given for why fewer and fewer men asked for a spot on her dance card each season. Which was fine with her, perhaps if she held out for another couple of years her parents would forget about her entirely and she could transition to spinsterhood in peace.
She had been fine being mean. She was good at it. It was one of the few things she was good at. As she aged, her demeanor got harsher and her sleeves got bigger and her prospects slimmed.
And then she'd been reintroduced to Eloise Bridgerton at a summer house party and it had all gone to shit. Because now she had ideas about women and competition and being nice and apologizing and caring and living authentically.
