“Oh my God?” Rose thought she had prepared herself, but obviously not well enough. This meeting was supposed to be good news, for Christ’s sake.
“What the fuck.” Svetlana had spoken in a deadpan, mouth open and eyes wide.
Rose thought her ears might be ringing. She found herself on her feet without remembering standing up. Her hand in Svetlana’s was like a death grip.
“What the fuck,” Svetlana repeated.
Rose looked at her, then at the screen with all the hockey players, then back at the shell shocked face of Svetlana.
What were they going to do?

Summary
Rose was just too busy for relationships. That’s what she told herself, anyways. And yes, she had been saying this since high school when she had to choose between dating regularly and booking her first indie film (the decision had been hilariously easy), but it still applied. Even though she was now successful enough to scrape some time away for a private life, she kept busy with a regular fitness regimen, going out with friends, and exploring the city.
Svetlana just didn’t meet people she would date. Hook up with, sure, but she had never had the desire for more than that, and she was worried she never would. She liked her life in Boston. She liked going out to clubs with friends, getting drunk and hooking up, trying different restaurants with strange cuisine. It was all wonderful. Just, sometimes Svetlana wondered if it would be a little more fun to have someone to do all these things with.
