With the ball soon apporaching, Nesta is still in distraught about how her life has turned out. Yes, her father is better and doing well in the mortal relam and her sister is the hero of Prythian, but she is still angry. Angry about how her life has now been dictated for her, but the upside is that Cassian has been helping her through it... in bed. This ball will be agonizing to watch all those High Lord pricks dance about with their broad chests and pointy ears, but Feyre assures her that it will be okay and that she only has to make an appearance at dinner and a few minutes during the dance. “It did?”
“Look.”
Said paper was suddenly thrust into his face, and he looked down at the front page of their local journal. A small publication that typically reported on high school football games and community garage sales.
‘National Skating Champions to Practice at Local Rink Ahead of US Championship’
Beneath the headline was a picture of two skaters – a vibrant red head, tall and sharp in his figure, and what was probably the most beautiful woman Cassian had ever seen.
--In which Cassian is sent on an errand to fetch Feyre's famous figure skating sister on their wedding weekend, only to discover they have more in common than he would have thought.
AKA Cassian is down bad for Nesta after he sees her skating in his local ice rink with Eris, and doesn't know what to do about it.

She doesn’t turn. Doesn’t move.
The bond in his chest is screaming. Her emotions crash over him in waves—despair, worthlessness, exhaustion, and underneath it all, a terrible calm. The calm of someone who’s made a decision.
“Step down.” His voice comes out harder than he intends. The voice of a general. But inside, he’s begging for her to listen.
“Go away.” Her voice is hollow. Empty. Nothing like the sharp, cutting tone he’s used to. Nothing like the fire he’s always admired.
This is worse than her anger. It’s defeat.
“No.” He takes a careful step closer, hands out like he’s approaching a spooked animal. “I’m not leaving.”
“I don’t want you here.”
“I don’t care.” Another step. The bond is pulling tight in his chest, urging him closer. Keep her safe. Keep her alive. “I’m not leaving you alone.”
He feels a flicker of something. Confusion, maybe. Or frustration that he won’t just let her do this.
“Please,” she whispers, and the word breaks his heart. “Please just go.”
“Not a chance, sweetheart.”
