Summary
Jack would be lying if he said he hadn't thought about it. The singular focus Samira directed towards her patients, the compassion and attention she seemed to have for every person that passed through her care–Jack was nearly certain that being on the receiving end of it would knock him on his ass.
The reality of it was not far from his daydreams.

"It's not like I did anything —"
"So help me god, Samira, if you say you were just doing your job one more time. You're a damn good doctor. And you got there by going after things that other people don't."
Well. Damn. Consider her properly put in her place.

Summary
Jack blinks at Orville (Otis? Owen?). Did he just have a stroke? Did this med student just have a stroke? Someone must be having a stroke, because- “Sorry, did you say married?”
The kid still doesn’t look up from his monitor, eyes intent on the screen as he shrugs, like they’re discussing the weather. “Yeah. Married.”
Jack Abbot finds out Samira Mohan is getting married.

Summary
When Samira wakes up the second time, there are fingers prodding at lips. She bites down on them in defiance and anger at having been woken up. She tries to tilt her head to the side, but a firm hand on her chin forces her in place. When her ears stop ringing, she hears Jack's painfully fond voice cooing at her, urging her to be a good girl and open up.
Samira gets sick, and Jack comes over to take care of her (in more ways than one).

Summary
Little to nothing surprised Samira Mohan at this point. She was almost certain that her brain had beaten the chemical out of her entirely.
So, one must understand, when the first thing in fifteen years to surprise Samira Mohan was a disagreement with Jack Abbot, she was pretty fucking taken aback.

It's a day in the office, really.
Jack is not on a battlefield.
Jack is just at work.
The noise, though. It’s ingrained in his bones.
Or, when a shot rings through the ED all Samira and Jack can do is hang onto each other.

Summary
Jack had accepted that he was, in fact, a little pathetic where Samira Mohan was concerned. It didn't bother him, really. He'd known real love once before in his life–knew that, despite the jeering he'd often received from the men in his unit, there was nothing embarrassing about devotion. At least, there hadn't been the first time.
Still, he couldn't help but feel a little stupid sitting in a bar on his night off, surrounded by coworkers, only for the hope that Samira might make an appearance. It wasn't like anything was ever going to come of it–he'd also made his peace with that–but he didn't see the harm in brightening his nights with the prospect of seeing her.

“Canwejustpretend?”
The words rushed out of her before she could stop them. She squeezed her eyes shut, hoping that if she waited long enough Jack would just get up and leave without saying anything more.
But of course, Jack Abbot wouldn’t leave her.
“Samira,” he said with all the patience he showed little kids in the ED, “can you say that one more time for me?”
She raised her gaze to look at him, only to find that he was looking at her first.

"Okay, so come home with me," he offered. Samira furrowed her brow in confusion. "I'm serious. I have a guest room. Great water pressure. A generator. A fridge full of food. Enough emergency supplies to survive nuclear fall out," he laid out.
"Why does that not surprise me," she asked with a roll of her eyes. "Aside from that being an insane idea on its face, if I go home with you, I'm gonna get stuck there for at least two days. Snow isn't supposed to stop any time soon. There's no way you want me invading your space for that long."
Curiously, a blush crept up his cheeks. He paused a moment. "If it means you're safe and warm, I'm sure I can live with it," he said dismissively.

Summary
In Samira’s defense, they do have a rule: as little phone usage as possible on the rare occasion that their time off overlaps. As with any rule, there are the customary exceptions—coverage emergencies, namely—but for the most part, they make do just fine, with phones coming out only to IMDB the occasional guest actor in a TV show or to bank some footage for later viewing, Samira cockdrunk and dewy faced as she peers up at the camera and at Jack behind it.
So when Jack’s phone goes off twenty-odd minutes into their movie, right at that sweet spot where they start paying less attention to the events on-screen in lieu of getting a little handsy, the look that Samira levels him with at the familiar ringtone is transparent: don’t you dare.

Robby's eyes shot wide, and he squared up to Jack. "You think I'm the one with blind spots where Samira Mohan is concerned? Seriously?" Robby intoned, a look of disbelief on his face.
Jack was a lot of things, but he wasn't a fucking hypocrite. "You think I'm not aware of my own blind spots? The difference between you and me is that I would never let mine negatively impact her education. I wouldn't let my own hang-ups jeopardize her future, and I'm not going to let yours do it either."

“Oh, come on,” there’s that whine again. “I’m not like one of those creeps who won’t take no for an answer."
Well clearly, he missed a few branches on the way down from the top of the self-awareness tree.
“I just want a little honesty. I can take it, Doc, promise.”
“Oh no Mr. Edgerton,” Whitaker finally manages to say. “Dr. Mohan really does have a boyfriend.”
Huh.
Jack didn’t know Whitaker had it in him.

Summary
Samira pulled up short as she rounded the corner to the kitchen and caught sight of Jack.
He had worn pajama pants slung low on his hips, and across his chest, stretched a black T-shirt, tight around his biceps. It was worn and faded, taut on him like it had belonged to a much younger, leaner version of Jack. Emblazoned on it was an inverted pink triangle, the words ACT UP in all caps beneath it.
Samira wasn't sure if it was the fit of the shirt or its message but something about the sight of him had her walking towards him before promptly dropping to her knees in front of him.

"Do you think you might want to move in here?" It came out unsure in a way Jack rarely found himself.
Samira put down what she was reading, turning her body to face him head on and looking up at him utterly befuddled.
"What do you mean?"
It wasn't a yes. But it wasn't a no either. Jack could live with that.

Summary
It’s comical. Or, it would be comical if it wasn’t happening to him. Six months after Samira Mohan badged out of her final shift at the Pitt, it has become kind of, sort of comical that she will respond to everyone’s text messages and emails but Jack's own.
Or, Samira Mohan has a history of reading relationships wrong.

Summary
When Samira opens her locker at the beginning of her first shift after making Chief Resident, there is a neat roll of gifts waiting for her, tied together with a silky, forest green ribbon that yields easily at her touch. They’re scrubs, she realizes, and nice ones at that—the telltale butter-soft fabric of FIGS. She might have assumed them to be her group gift if not for the dueling flower bouquets from the day and night shifts that had been waiting for her at the Hub when she arrived; or the fact that the scrub pants in the set are cargos, with a Control-Cric kit of her own nestled into one pocket; or that the flat card tucked into the folds of fabric reads,
More pockets for all the responsibility you now hold, Chief. Congratulations. I can't wait to see everything you do next. — J
