Summary

Summary
Made an outcast by the Roman Emperor after the horrible defeat in the Teutoburg Forest seven years ago and never allowed to return to Rome, Damiano and the legionaries that survived the battle against Arminius are living a miserable life in a small camp in the Germanic wilderness, far away from any Roman civilization. When he learns that the Marcians keep the lost Eagle of his butchered legion, Damiano's desperate enough to ask Ethan, the young Alpha chief of the Mattiacers in the village near his camp for help.
Ethan agrees to help him retrieve the Eagle during the harvest festival that will take place in the Marcian settlement, but his help comes with a prize Damiano has to pay publicly. With nothing left to lose, Damiano reluctantly agrees to surrender to Ethan in the great assembly hall in front of all Mattiacers and his own legionaries and accept Ethan as his First Alpha.
Deeply traumatized after the lost battle Damiano has avoided any kind of touch ever since he escaped the horror with barely his life, so why does it feel so good to be touched by the barbarian Alpha who seems to look straight into his wounded soul every time their eyes meet?

Damiano may not have actually wanted what happened, but he does not consider himself a victim. Which is exactly why he never tells his band mates, or anyone, anything about what happened in Manuel's dressing room. He would rather forget about it altogether. And for a long time, he almost does.
