Summary
Patroclus was meant to die beneath the walls of Troy.
His death was supposed to shatter Achilles. Achilles’ grief would become wrath, Hector would fall beneath his spear, Troy would burn, and the greatest warrior Greece had ever known would follow his beloved into death soon after.
The Fates had already written the ending.
Then Thetis heard her son scream.
Unable to save Achilles from the glorious death foretold for him, the sea goddess does the one thing no one expects: she saves the man who makes Achilles want to live. Patroclus rises from the battlefield, his severed thread knotted back together and his future suddenly unwritten.
