This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
No, wait. That’s not right. That’s Hitchhiker's Guide. Or was it Restaurant at the End of the Universe? Whatever, not important.
Eddie Munson died on March 27th, 1986.
Except…he didn’t. He couldn’t have. Because Eddie Munson is currently arguing with himself in his fucking head about sci-fi quotes, which doesn’t feel especially like something that a dead person would have the capacity to do.
The bats had killed him. There had been pain, and the sick sensation of tearing flesh. He’d had to swallow past a mouthful of his own blood to tell Henderson he loved him. Surely those were symptoms of imminent death.
And yet.
On April 1st, 1986, Eddie Munson opens his eyes in a dim hospital room. There’s a gasp from his left, and he tries to turn his head towards the source.
“Easy there, kid. They’ve got you trussed up pretty good.”
Eddie doesn’t need to see him. He’d know that voice anywhere, in any universe, hell dimension or otherwise.
“Uncle Wayne?”

Summary
A few months after the events of season four Vecna is defeated, at a celebratory party Eddie and Steve get a dare, fake date until one of them chickens out.
ten years later and neither of them have chickened out yet.
But Steve is tired of pretending, tired of knowing everything Eddie does is fake, tired of waiting for Eddie to leave him.
So he proposes, knowing it'll be the end of it all.
But Eddie says yes and soon enough they're preparing for their wedding, preparing for their life together, preparing for kids, and everything else Steve wants for a future with Eddie.
But all of it is fake.

Eddie hadn't planned on living. He wouldn't have thrown himself into the mouths the beasts if he'd thought he would have to suffer through the consequences. But he did and he does. Now, he's holed up in the (un)dead police chief's secluded cabin with none other than the former King of Hawkins as his handler. Maybe the bats were the easy part, it's Steve Harrington he has to survive.

With twenty-three years of life and zero years of dating experience under his belt, Eddie decides that he doesn't want to spend another Valentine's Day alone. He's determined to find a date for the upcoming holiday, capitalist bullshit be damned. The problem with having not dating experience, though, is having no idea what the hell he's doing or how to get a date. Steve, on the other hand, is practically a professional, and decides to do his duty as Eddie's best friend and roommate: give him some on-the-job experience. However, with each passing date, Eddie realizes that Valentine's Day is the least of his concern, and getting through these practice dates while keeping his feelings in check is the real challenge.
