    Summary

And there - ardent under the glow of the stage lights and modelled, delicately porcelain, with piercing and loving and impassioned gaze making the distance all the way across the theatre, with slight but sturdy frame taking beautiful, unreal inhales from his chest and with each exhale the stale air shivered, yawped - there was the vulnerability that Todd had been so desperately missing.

Neil enters Todd's life again, after seven excruciating years, and between memories of the past and present, Todd can't decide whether it's a good thing, or not.

'Neil means to say ‘sure,’ or ‘yes,’ or any variation from his years-long stock of customer service phrases.

Instead, his too nonchalant shrug appears hand in hand with something so far from bland, it’s practically a wedding vow.

    “As you wish.” '

    "Where's Charlie?

Is the first question Knox asks, in a long line of questions, which eventually land him on the empty greens near the lake, about a half an hour after any sports could still possibly be active."

    Summary

Neil opened to the first page, but before he started to read, his eyes flickered up to Todd, shyly. He tilted his head back and forth, weighing how to ask what he wanted to. Then, he jabbed his finger at the page, expectant.

“You can read it,” Todd softly agreed. “Just… not too much, okay?” He then lunged forward, nearly falling into Neil’s lap. The other boy didn’t even move, just grinned, observing Todd as the blond furrowed his brows and flipped through his notebook, trying to search for the right poems.

‘I wonder what’s in the diary of Todd Anderson,’ Neil signed, twiddling his eyebrows.

    Summary

“Todd,” said Neil, ever the persistent one, “when are you going to write more poetry?” He tilted his head to the side, eyes quizzical.

“I don’t know. When I find the words,” said Todd.

“You have the words already!” Neil protested. “You just need something to write about.”

    “Like what?”

Another moment of quiet, another laser-bright stare from Neil, as if he were trying to beam an answer directly into Todd’s mind.

He eventually seemed to give up on that, and so he said, “I guess… nature. Childhood. Society.” A pause. “Love.”
