Summary

As if this wasn’t enough, where Kaveh’s team planned to build, a Leyline has formed. Kaveh knew from the start the Leyline would be trouble, but he didn’t expect it to be the kind of trouble to send him back in time.
Here in the past, Kaveh is a student at the Akademiya again. A time where he isn’t in debt nor suffocated by workload. A time where Alhaitham still looks at him like he would trade in the world for his safety. Kaveh swears to himself to seize this second chance, but Alhaitham catches on quickly that there is something odd about his Senior…

She didn’t look particularly old, perhaps five or six, with startlingly white and silver hair tipped with green. Her eyes were intensely green and though she seemed surprised to see Kaveh, her smile was sweet. “Hello,” she said. “Are you Kaveh?”
“Um,” Kaveh said eloquently. “Yes?”
Kaveh comes back from a trip into the desert for inspiration and finds out that Alhaitham's daughter will be staying with them for an undetermined amount of time.
He's perfectly normal about this.

Kaveh lets out a chesty, shuddering series of coughs into a handkerchief. "I am literally in bed as we speak," he replies in the hoarse whisper that is all he has left of his voice.
"You're working," Alhaitham replies, unimpressed. "Your precise location does not change the fact that you are designing a medical facility rather than getting adequate sleep-"
Kaveh interrupts by coughing again.
"-or actually visiting a medical facility," Alhaitham continues when the fit has ended.
Kaveh doesn't know how to rest. Alhaitham doesn't know how to help.

“It was either pay for it,” Kaveh mutters, “or die before it could finish falling. And I don’t want to die.”
Kaveh's skin is made of porcelain. Alhaitham, coincidentally, learns how to sculpt.

“Kaveh cannot know about this.” Alhaitham felt the words leap out of his throat like bullets from the barrel of a gun, “There is too much risk to tell him something so severe outright. The chance it would jeopardize what remains of our friendship is too substantial of a gamble."
Cyno hummed as if to himself, ordering another drink from the same waitress that'd swung by a little while ago and sipping at the final dregs of amber pooling at the bottom of his near barren glass. He stared Alhaitham dead across the table, and it wouldn’t have taken even the slightest shred of intelligence from any of the three admittable geniuses present to pick out the bright twinkle of glee at his teeth and the silvery snark of his tone that came with it.
"Well, if it's abruptness you're worried about, you could always try courting him."

Summary
Alhatham’s been shitty. This shouldn’t be and really isn’t a surprise, but it’d be nice if Kaveh had some sort of measure or meter to warn him before the man pulls out some new shitty tactic to make Kaveh feel bad about himself, because at least then it’d be–not bearable , but he’d at least be prepared for it.
And it’s not some big and shocking revelation that Alhaitham’s words cut Kaveh deep, all the way to the bone and further past that. It’s just that Kaveh has been under the impression that Alhaitham had a semblance of knowledge on when to stop, or at least when to apologize, in his own pretentious way. He knew which topics upset Kaveh, which ones to avoid and not poke at him about.
Or: Five times Alhaitham says something he probably shouldn't have. Scratch that, he definitely shouldn't have, along with the five times he apologizes.
