“No. Yes. No. Look, okay,” James said, laughing nervously. “You’re gonna think I’m absolutely mental, and that’s fine, I’ve made my peace with that. But I was wondering if you maybe—like if you’re not already busy or dating some secret mystery person—might wanna, I don’t know, go out sometime?”
Regulus stared.
James kept going, panic rising in his voice like he’d lost control of the sentence somewhere in the middle. “Like, not like out out—well actually, yes, out out, like a date, like people go on dates, like you and me, together—uh, not right now. Unless you want to. But I meant like Saturday? If you’re into that?”
A beat of stunned silence.
Regulus blinked. Once. Twice. “You… want to go on a date. With me.”-,'-
Or: James and Regulus start dating. A lot of other things (like an overprotective brother) have to be handled now. Just a developing relationship with some minor obstacles. Overall very lighthearted.

James pressed his lips together hard as he fought the urge to suck in a breath at the words. He instinctively reached for his binder of prepared materials and began to flip through it as if it would have the answer, rustling the pages frantically as he did.
“Hello?”
James flinched. “Um, hi, yes sorry it’s uh-- it’s my first day.”
A pause. Then, dry as a bone: “Brilliant. You’d think they’d at least train you to tell people not to kill themselves before handing you a phone.”
James froze, then panicked. “Oh God-- you’re right, I mean, of course-- I didn’t-- oh, shit, I just--”
James’s rambling was interrupted by a quiet sound, over so quickly he almost missed it.
The caller had laughed.

The words endlessly stammered out of Mike’s lips, there seeming to never be an end to every blow that mercilessly fell upon the unrequited duo.
“Yeah well, I guess I did. That was my one last bit of reality left.”
Will’s eyes seemed to be growing glassy as the words barely came out above a hush. If Mike hadn’t been paying attention to the way Will’s lips trembled with each word, the rain would have drowned them out.
Perhaps it was better if he drowned. He wouldn’t have to stand here as he watched Will’s eyes fall upon him in a look he’d never seen before. Hatred.

Mike caps the cup and slides it across the pickup counter to Will, following it up with a wrapped straw and his wrapped lemon loaf immediately after. “Medium iced chai with oat milk and brown sugar syrup, and a lemon loaf for yellow flannel guy!”
Will grabs his straw, shooting a disapproving look at Mike as he carefully unwraps it. “Remind me to never wear this flannel in public again.” He grabs his drink, slipping his straw into it with steady hands.
“Nah, it looks nice on you. Don’t let me stop you, Just Will.” Mike is grinning so hard his face hurts. He’s more awake than he was previously, most of his exhaustion washing away throughout this interaction.
Will sighs, his cheeks going slightly red at Mike’s compliment, bringing his straw to his pink lips and taking a small sip. Mike watches Will’s gaze travel down to Mike’s chest, his eyes stopping on his name tag for only a second before they dip slightly lower. His lips quirk up into a small smile as he swallows his sip of chai. “I like your pin, by the way.”
