Summary
Jake sees a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye. There’s a creature watching them from the waves.
It’s a seal, he quickly realizes. Big and bulky, fully adult. Coarse brown fur, huge black eyes, slick pelt. The seal is staring directly at Jake, something baleful and almost challenging in its manner. Now that he thinks about it, he’s certain he’s seen this same seal patrolling the waters around the island or sunbathing lazily on the black rocks.
It has a distinctive, recognizable whisker pattern: prominent and bushy, like a particularly bad mustache.

“You will go.” Cain’s pale eyes are cold and intense, boring into Jake’s. At the same time, Jake has the sense the Oracle isn’t really looking at him at all.
Jake will go. He has to; there’s no real choice. If he refuses, he’ll be cast out for insubordination and heresy anyway. But he won’t go screaming and crying and begging like the Offerings before him.
No, he thinks, heartbeat calming as resolve turns the blood to steel in his veins.

“What’s this for?” Bradshaw asks warily in the middle of the tarmac, staring down at the protein bar Jake shoved unceremoniously into his hand. He looks suspicious and slightly bewildered, like he always does whenever he’s within proximity to Jake.
“For decoration, obviously,” Jake replies, mocking. It’s the last in the box he keeps in his locker as an easy means of refueling pre or post hop, but Bradshaw needn’t know all that. “I had extra and don’t like that flavor anyway.”

For this prompt on the Inception kink meme: Due to his dyslexia, Eames has memorized tons and tons of literature. He listens to books on tape on his iPod all the time. Arthur has shitty taste in everything (except suits) and listens to, like, radio-friendly rock while Eames is chillaxing with Anna Karenina on long aeroplane journeys.
Because Arthur is efficient and thinks he is being considerate, he records voicemails for Eames instead of emailing him like everyone else. Except when he's talking he tends to give asides along with the official stuff, and Eames replies to him via voicemail, and so develops a kind of AUDIO-THEMED EPISTOLARY ROMANCE ACROSS THE GLOBE.
