Adam couldn't remember the last time someone else had patched his injuries. When he was younger, his mother used to do it sometimes, but there would be a disappointment in her eyes, and Adam never understood what he had done wrong.
Adam searched Ronan's eyes for any signs of disappointment, but there was only sadness and worry. Adam hadn't seen this look directed to him from Ronan.(Slight canon divergence where Ronan starts patching up Adam's injuries and bruises)

He imagines Erwin’s new life, his new vocation, his new family, when the seasons change, or when he blows the candles out, or now, as the sun sets. The only space he does so is a space of a threshold. It does not feel good or bad. It does not feel happy or sad. Levi realises now, however, that this is not the same as it feeling nothing."
Six years after the War ends and they part ways, Levi finds himself at Erwin's door again.

Following the Rumbling, and tired of being so wholly connected to it, Levi retreats from his celebrity in Paradis to the countryside of Marley. His past still follows him there, of course — one man from it in particular. When fallen Commander Erwin appears at Levi's doorstep, wearing the same clothes he'd died in seven years after the fact, Levi has a lot more than his own grief and lingering confessions to sort out.
( AU: During the disintegration of paths with the end of the Rumbling, the Source of all living matter honors the dying wish of Erwin's soul to return to Levi's side through the Ackerbond — although not without a major caveat )

Summary
There was the thought of asking him again sometime, hearing Armin’s answer now. Would he still look at Jean with that same hope in his eyes? Would he still talk about all the books he wanted to write, and all the histories he wanted to know? The things he maybe still wanted to see.
Jean wondered, but a part of him knew he’d be too afraid to ask, too scared to see that the light had gone out completely, and even the mere question wouldn’t be enough to bring it back.
