Or when Marcy said she was going to tell her mum that he’d hit her, even when he didn’t. He didn’t wish on stars then, even though it seemed really important at the time.
That should count in his favor, right? If he makes a wish now, and he never ever ever has before, it will be granted, right?

It’s been a little over a year since Sirius had kissed him for the first time on Halloween, crowding him up against the counter, whispering ‘Hey, you’ in his ear, breath warm with alcohol. A little over a year since Remus had tried half-heartedly to push him away, whispering, ‘I don’t think this is a good idea.’ To which Sirius had said, ‘Give me one reason why not,’ and Remus had stood there unable to say, ‘Because I'm in love with you, because I’m scared of what that love may do to me,’ and unable to come up with anything else, choking on a couple years worth of unsaid words, and so he’d just let it happen, more than just let it happen. It’s been three years since the boy across the hall had knocked on his dorm door to introduce himself, posh accent, ironed-down shirt, lithe, clever fingers pushing long black hair from his face before extending his hand out in offering. Three years since Remus had stared down at that hand, a bit bewildered, before reaching out to grasp it and Sirius had smiled up at him, butterscotch sweet, and his hand had been soft and warm and Remus hadn’t wanted him to let go. The feeling has never gone away.

John felt his face reddening as he lined up the shot and took a few photos. He shook his head slightly, his heart pounding as he switched apps, brought up the photos, chose the best one, tapped out a quick message and pressed send.
He didn't receive a reply for five minutes. When the reply did come, he frowned slightly.

This is, Sirius knows, where he should reel off their drinks order, but he momentarily loses the ability to form words because this man is... well, he’s really fucking beautiful. His hair is curly; long on the top but cut short on the sides, and it’s golden, everything about him is just golden. His eyes and his freckles and the impatient scowl on his face. His lips are full and unimpressed, a little rough from the inclement weather, pursed together as he waits for Sirius to speak.
“Erm,” Sirius mumbles, losing all of his usual swagger. “Three pints of bitter please.”
The man nods, pulls the pints with practised proficiency and hands the card machine to Sirius. “Ten sixty.”
Sirius starts. “For all three drinks?”
The man arches an eyebrow. “Not from round these parts, are you?”

Summary
It’s just that he can’t figure it out-there’s a diffuse sort of puppy-wanting in his mouth for Remus and he knows it's different than the adoration he follows James with but he can’t figure out how. Sirius watches Remus at breakfast, in class, in their dorm, the way he holds himself like an apology and a broken promise and he doesn’t know why the sight of him tastes so damn sweet.
A post-quidditch party: Sirius, too much beer, and everything he wants to say to Remus but doesn't know how to.

“Okay, okay, I have a question for our dearest Moony…” he says in a low, salacious, voice. The group quiets slightly, anticipation building in the air. Remus is rather notorious for never picking truth, also for his grandpa sweaters even during the summers. This game was built as an antonym to Remus Lupin, and everyone wants to know how this’ll turn out.
“Sirius…” Remus is entirely unsure what plot he is the unwitting victim of, but if Sirius Black and Games mean anything, it’s that Remus will have to make some interesting decisions.

Living with Sirius has been interesting for Remus, feeling a bit like he’d travelled back in time to his university days, when he was marginally more gangly and awkward, and Sirius and James were just as effervescent and unruly as they’ve continued to be in their adult lives. Only now, they’ve replaced a riotous James Potter with a riotous 4-year-old with a penchant for scribbling on white walls with hot pink markers.

Sirius is not an idiot, no matter what James says. He knows he was meant to be a Gryffindor. He was meant to keep his feet firmly on the ground because no one (not even Fleamont) has managed to perfect a haircare range that leaves your locks silky smooth after even a few death-defying dives on a broomstick. He also knows that Remus Lupin can't dance. He's undeniably gorgeous, but there is absolutely no way that lanky beanpole can do anything elegantly (maybe he's a little elegant when he licks his thumb to turn the pages in his latest book but Sirius certainly doesn't watch that).
Except he might just be wrong.

If he’s being honest with himself—really honest with himself—his real reasons for offering himself up to Sirius as fake boyfriend material have nothing to do with helping Sirius help James out. But, well, who’s it going to hurt to keep those to himself if he goes through with this? If Remus wants to do a trial run of coming out, knowing that he can take it back after and claim it was all a ruse—worst-case scenario, he goes back to hiding who he is when all’s said and done, but best-case, people get used to it without the world falling apart, and Remus gets to stay out even after his “relationship” with Sirius unravels. And if he gets to cuddle up to Sirius a little in the meantime—
Or: Remus and Sirius carry out a fake relationship to dispel rumors that James and Sirius are dating, and Remus gets more than he bargained for. Super tropey. Remus/Sirius, Sirius/James, background Lily/James. Chapter 2: secret relationship. Chapter 3: shit hits the fan. Chapter 4: resolution.
