Summary
When Blue woke up she was alone in her bed (not uncommon; they had five for a reason), and her temples felt like someone had taken an axe to them (less common than sleeping alone, but still more so than she’d like). Even the slivers of light coming through the blinds felt like too much.
She squeezed her eyes shut, and took a quick inventory.
It was Friday. Her alarm hadn’t gone off, so it was before nine. She didn’t have class this morning, but she did have a shift at the craft store, and Adam and Gansey wouldn’t be home unless something had gotten cancelled. Noah maybe was, but his relationship with electricity was contentious and they hadn’t yet figured out a fix.
Fuck.

“You want Parrish that bad, huh?” Kavinsky seemed pleased with himself for this deduction, and Ronan was so angry that he pushed Kavinsky down, and punched him tidily in the mouth. Kavinsky spit over the side of the hood, his saliva all red. His teeth had cut his lip.
“God, you’re such a bitch.” K wiped his mouth.
Ronan sneered. He was still angry, his pulse like a jackhammer in his veins. He couldn’t stop feeling. The metal of the Mitsubishi under his hands, the rough hem of his jeans on the inside of his thigh, the place where Kavinsky held his arm, burning pink.
He still held Kavinsky’s shoulder, sticky with summer humidity, underneath his palm.
“If you don’t shut up,” Ronan told him, pressing his forearm hard against Kavinsky’s windpipe. “I’ll punch your lights out.”Kavinsky’s pupils were so enlarged he looked shark-like, and even with Ronan’s arm pressing down on his windpipe, he smiled. “I bet you’ve imagined him like this.” His voice was barely a rasp. “Having him this close.”

“I don’t believe in therapy,” Devin says, staring through the windshield with a good deal more concentration than an empty parking lot merits. Gansey is about to say that that’s rather obvious, scorn she has no real claim to, when Devin continues, “But I think you should make Ronan see someone.”
“No one can make Ronan do anything she doesn’t want to do.” Devin hasn’t turned on the AC or cracked the windows, and sweat beads under Gansey’s collar, still starchy from the dry cleaner’s. She’s annoyed to have been dragged out here to bake in a soulless luxury vehicle and discuss implausible pipe dreams.
“You can. And if you don’t, it’ll be your fault when she dies.” At this, Devin gets out and heads across the parking lot, heading toward the road instead of back to Aglionby. For all the time she spends scolding Ronan for her truancy, she too acts like she has something much more important to do than graduate from high school.
