“Good morning, Chris,” Roy says politely, “would you have some time today for an impromptu birth control session?”
“Tell her what you did!” Ed hollers, but it’s jovial still. Roy feels a silent bit of pride that they know each other well enough by now that Ed’s not even worried about his reaction.
“You know I have that young mate, don’t you?” Roy asks. “It’s gone… well, as you may have been able to expect.” He listens to the girls’ laughter in the background as Chris talks, but it’s barely more than white noise. He can already hear Chris’ tolerating smile over the receiver.
Roy and Ed get an abortion after Ed’s most recent heat.

“Hey, you,” Ed says awkwardly. Roy hums, but then manages to look down at him. There’s a glint to his eye in the sunlight, making his brown eyes look more amber than usual. “I like you.”
“Oh?” Roy asks. He seems happy about that. “Well, it’s a good thing I like you too, Edward.”
Ed has to tear his face off of Roy’s before the bastard can see him grinning about it.
It’s the first heat he and Roy will share together where the world hasn’t been ending. Things go well.

Summary
“Beautiful picture,” Mustang says as he shakes out the second polaroid to hand it over to Ed’s waiting hands the second his vision returns. “I can see why people mistake you for being so young.”
Grabbing it, Ed investigates his own face thoroughly. The timelessly youthful nature that his Stone gives him prevents him from getting any wrinkles, and it keeps his eyes clear and sharp. Ed’s eyes are bright and perceptive when they nail on the camera for the second time, though there’s a small shine on his cheeks from when they started watering the first time. The goldness of his person seems otherworldly, but ephemeral too. Like how a sunset looks—unlasting.
Roy Mustang discovers someone the government had no record of in Dublith.

Summary
Ed remembers Roy’s voice in his head, in their tent in Ishval, the memory of their conversation as clear as the desert constellations used to be:
I want to change this place. I want to get rid of what’s wrong here, Ed. I’m going to take the Fuhrer’s seat and change everything to how it’s supposed to be.
The very same epiphany hits Ed like a train. He digs his fingers into the dragon on his pocket watch, forcing feeling to return slowly, so slowly. He can’t look away now. He can’t run away again.
After Ed defects from Ishval he runs away to Resembool. It isn’t long before Bradley finds him and convinces him to come back.

“The darkness of the moon is the temporal conduit in the array,” Ed’s grin down at Roy is boisterous and genuine. “I figured it out. The eclipse. A method of telling time, with only a few instances of it in recent history. One next year. And then in five years from then. If I use imagery of an eclipse as a conduit for time, I can send myself back.”
Roy makes an affronted sound where he’s barely not asleep, but slowly rousing awake and garnering some suspicion. “I ask again: what the absolute hell are you talking about?”
“If I make you breakfast I promised, will you promise you won’t get mad at me for lying?” Ed asks.
After Ed finds himself in the past, he looks to where he knows he'll be the safest: with Roy.

Roy huffs, and everything feels easier, like heaving that sigh has kicked the planet back onto its correct axis. “Wonder where you learned that from,” he says, voice dry.
Ed snorts. “You can keep telling yourself that if you want,” he replies, but the blow is softened by the grin on his face. “You’re lucky that I didn’t learn romance at the Roy Mustang school of overpriced dinners and underwhelming missionary. None of that shit would’ve worked on you anyway.”

How Robby treats him like the son he could've had and never did. But unfortunately for everyone, himself included, Robby has never thought Langdon as his son, not truly. As a protégé, sure. As his best student, best resident. As the best thing he's ever been able to mold in his image and likeness, like God would do.
