Summary
In the spring of 1944, the 104th Medical Battalion of the United States Army is disbanded, and its men reassigned to various infantry companies in preparation for their invasion of occupied France. For First Lieutenant Novak, this is less than helpful, as he has so far met his platoon’s designated medic a grand total of twice, and has both times found Sergeant Winchester to be the optimum combination of reckless, arrogant, and downright insufferable so as to make cohesive platoon function near impossible. Finally, after so many years of pining and waiting and sleepless nights, Neil had finally gotten to hug Andrew at the airport.
And yet, Neil has been afraid out of his mind to do anything else since then. Not because of Andrew’s previous apprehension, but because of his own damn awkwardness.
It’s frustrating, frankly. Neil can spend countless nights on Discord calls describing to Andrew in detail about what he wants the man to do to him in bed but he can’t pluck up the courage to hold his hand irl? Pathetic. Allison would be laughing her ass off.

Neil stood still, staring. He didn’t say a word for what felt like hours, enough time for some memories of blue eyes watching, always observing, to fill Andrew’s head. Say it, he thought, hoping with everything he had in him that this wasn’t some sort of hallucination. I need you to say it.
“I…” Neil choked out, pausing. “I would like a small coffee.”
It felt like Andrew had been physically struck. “Sure. Room for cream?”
