Peta felt her face get hot. She looked down at her shoes -- good leather shoes, hand-me-downs from someone but still whole. She curled her fingers and felt the new calluses starting to grow from sword training. Then she looked Vesemir right in the eye and said, “I’m not leaving. I like it here. I want to stay. Besides, I never lied you just... assumed, and I didn't say anything.”“I want to be a witcher,” Peta said. “I don’t care if it hurts.”
Vesemir made a sound like a growl in the back of his throat. “Peta,” he said. “You can’t be a witcher. You won’t survive the Changes. And I am not going to let you kill yourself in my fortress.”

When the door slammed open Dorian startled so badly his attempt at a chair collapsed sideways and dumped him onto the ground.
He didn't spill his drink, so that was one consolation. And when he looked up to see who had entered, Commander Cullen looked so genuinely baffled that Dorian had to laugh. Cullen glared.
"Come in, come in," Dorian said, getting to his feet and gesturing around the room. "If I'd known you were coming I'd have cleaned up a bit."
After the mess with his father, Dorian needs a break. And a drink. Or several.

Summary
Alma Coin's dictatorial tendencies don't go unnoticed by everyone; over the years, a faction splits from her rebellion and seeds itself through the districts. They have no resources, weapons, or strongholds, but they do have eyes and ears. And so they infiltrate and gather intelligence from both sides, waiting until the time when they can save Panem from President Snow and Alma Coin.
When Brutus is pulled from the 75th Arena and accidentally resuscitated by a squad of District 2 Peacekeepers, the second resistance takes a chance. Coin considers District 2 an acceptable sacrifice -- a convenient scapegoat, full of loyalist traitors -- but after all, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
A fix-it that isn't; nothing is rosy, nothing is easy, but maybe a few lives will be saved along the way. Follows canon through the Quarter Quell and diverges at "A District Upside Down".
