Day 1 of the OFMD Advent calender 2024
"When the bell to his apartment rang, Ed was in the middle of his Sunday evening ritual. Just about to get up for another cup of hot chocolate while watching his favourite TV show and laughing to himself about silly jokes. Who dared to disturb his special time!"
Ed's new neighbour rings his bell for the first time at 11pm on the 30th of November with an urgent request.
There is some talk about their respective family traumas and emotional violence of their fathers but the whole piece is still more fluff than heavy and they can share their hurts but also some positive memories of old or new family traditions and bond with each other in a caring way.

Summary
Stede gets a book about pirates from his brother-in-law. Inside, he finds a curious name—his name, Stede Bonnet. It's barely a mention, two measly paragraphs in a longer story about the legendary Blackbeard, with whom he apparently sailed for a time. That night, he dreams about Ed. He learns he already knows more than he'll find in any book.
And Ed? Ed dreams too. He dreams about drowning, mostly.
Until he sees Stede.
The title comes from my best girl Margaret Lanterman, AKA The Log Lady, in one of her iconic Twin Peaks episode intros: "The beautiful thing about treasure is that it exists. It exists to be found."

Modern AU.
-- Stede Bonnet is recently divorced and getting on with his life with the help of his friends. It’s Halloween season and Stede’s going to a haunted house with the crew. It’s Stede’s first time going to a haunted attraction. He picks the VIP option, a more extreme experience which allows actors to touch the patrons.
-- Edward Teach has been working as a haunt actor for many seasons. This year he’s been hired by an attraction where actors are permitted to touch guests to give them an extra scare. His character is one he’s perfected over the years, the pirate Blackbeard. He’s gotten weary of being a haunt actor, so he hopes this new gig will bring some more oomph to his life.- Language:

Summary
Stede's birthday is coming up and all he really wants is a pirate themed party. His boyfriend thinks he's being childish and stupid. The handsome stranger in the cake aisle disagrees.

“Pirates, is it?”“Please don’t tease. I really don’t think I can handle any more ridicule today.”
“Shit, no I didn’t mean it like that. I’m a bit of a pirate nerd myself. Can I show you something?” He began unbuttoning his dress shirt before Stede could form the words to answer.
“What are you doing?” he started to ask, trailing off quickly as his mouth went dry at the sight of the man’s bare chest where he had pulled his undershirt all the way up. Stede was too distracted to finish speaking by the overall impression: a canvas of ink covered skin, muscular and soft in all the right places, a tantalizing trail of dark hair leading Stede’s eyes down, down…
Fuck. Focus, Bonnet.
He dragged his focus back to the inked images which were surely the point of this man’s public indecency.

Summary
When their eyes met next, something magical and dangerous and unspoken passed between them. Stede’s hands lingered on Ed’s shin for an instant too long, and Ed knew, intellectually, that this spelled out nothing but trouble. He found that he simply did not care. It couldn’t even be his fault, really, if he got caught up in the moment. Stede was magnetic and beautiful and rare like a precious stone, and the way he looked at Ed, like he was fascinating and important and like he knew things, well. Anyone could be forgiven for going a little bit insane about that, couldn't they?

The year is 1903. Edward Teach, intrepid reporter and wilderness guide, general bad ass, is not pleased to be spending the summer writing a glorified gossip column and drafting the travel guide that his editor is insisting he write. Stede Bonnet, Boulder Valley's newest resident, is just trying to figure out what to do with his life.
They don't have much in common, or at least they shouldn't on paper, but when Ed enlists Stede's help in writing his book they forge a fast friendship. That wouldn't be a problem, except that Ed is very much falling in love with him, and the rough and tumble Rocky Mountains are no place for that.
