However, for Kaeya, this becomes an opportunity to get closer to Diluc, whom he’s had a crush on since the day they met. He’d never intended for it to be more than background music, but their duel has kindled an unsuspected drive in him.

Of all the ways to meet, “I fell down a ladder and you spared me a broken hip” was not on Diluc's bingo. He would never have imagined that working in a bookshop would be so dangerous, but thankfully, there are worse things in life than landing in a beautiful stranger’s arms — and his magnificent chest.

As an omega, Diluc always knew he would have little say in his future -- especially with his father gone, his last rampart against the Elders of the Church and their hunger for power. Even as a Prince, his voice carries no weight, and so, he has no choice but to comply when they marry him off to the Khaenri'ahn Prince, an alpha looking for a mate -- much to his court's interest.
Far from being deterred, Diluc decides to use this opportunity in the country with the most evolved intelligence to investigate his father's death, which he suspects to be a murder. His betrothed, Prince Kaeya Alberich, sees him as nothing more than a burden, so this goal is all he has left to keep afloat when everything else seems to work against him.
However, the more time he spends in the Khaenri'ahn court, the more obvious it is that someone wants him gone. In an unlikely alliance with Kaeya, Diluc vows to find who keeps making attempts on his life.
He already has an idea why.

Being an Idol is a rollercoaster.
Every step out of line on this walking plank of an industry is a chance to drown into the cesspool of scandals brewing under its plastic surface. To survive, you either have to learn how to swim with a ball and chain, breathe underwater, or have godly balance.
Diluc does neither, but he’s also long since stopped caring. No amount of hiding and fake-smiling and ironing out his edges can stop something meant to be broken from being broken. Careers, people. Hearts. If he wants a chance to live his passion, he has to accept he will make waves.
Kaeya, however, is a storm waiting to happen. It’s bad enough that Diluc never got over his ex-boyfriend – it’s hard when he never got closure – now he can’t even pretend he ever wanted to as they get roped into a collab and the feelings he’s tried to kill are reignited tenfold.
Only this time, he can see through the smokescreen.

His life implodes when he is attacked by a strange beast on his way home from work. If it weren’t for Kaeya, a beautiful knight summoned from the past, Diluc would have been monster dinner.
Neither Diluc nor Kaeya know why Mondstadt is suddenly bustling with monsters that hunt adepts of magic, but one thing is sure: they can count on each other.
