    Summary

"Bdubs," mumbles Etho, wondering if his whole body is on fire or if maybe he's just dying for real now, "What the hell are you doin'?"

"Carryin' you home, sweetheart!" says Bdubs cheerfully. He's got one pack slung over each shoulder--each close to overflowing with stone and ores--and he's carrying Etho like he doesn't weigh a thing. And oh, he's so warm. The cave had been freezing, and maybe the blood loss hadn't helped, but Bdubs is like a furnace.

    "'Kay," says Etho carefully, "Why?"

    OR

Bdubs really doesn't cope well with death, impermanent though it may be. Somehow, Etho copes even worse with being called sweetheart and babydoll while carried home, faint from blood loss, in Bdubs' weirdly strong arms.

    Summary

"How many people have disappeared from the village in the last year?" said Eskel.
Mieczysław rubbed his nose. "Well, one. But who can say how many folk travelin' or tradin' have been taken by that thing? Could be dozens, you know."
"Few journey this far north," said Geralt.
"Aye," said Mieczysław, "And why do you think that it is?"
"The weather?" said Eskel, clearly trying not to laugh.
"Nay," said Mieczysław, voice trembling, "It’s because them woods are haunted! Folk know to stay away!"
"Hm," said Geralt. "I haven't heard anything about them being haunted. So how would anyone else not from around here know not to come by these woods?"
    "Word travels," said Mieczysław stoutly.
"More than humans do, it seems," muttered Eskel. Geralt snorted out a laugh.
"What's that?" said Mieczysław. "Speak up."
"He said, where's the path that leads to the mushroom grove?" said Geralt, loudly.

    Summary

“Well,” said Jaskier, and he bit his lip in contemplation, which was very distracting, so Geralt picked up his long-forgotten ale to take a large, steadying gulp. “Before I drowned, I was very well-trained as a bard, and I was exceptionally skilled at fingering.”
Geralt coughed as the ale went down wrong.
“Were you,” he said, a little breathlessly.
Jaskier gave him a wide, earnest grin. “With the lute, yes!”
Geralt was not disappointed by this clarification at all.
“And in other endeavors as well,” said Jaskier, and his grin showed a few extra teeth. He gave an exaggerated, saucy wink, possibly for emphasis.
“That’s very nice,” said Geralt, who was mostly certain that Jaskier was talking about sex, now, but not completely.

Alternately titled, “Geralt is maybe a little bit dumb, but it's okay because Jaskier is really, really nice, and really, really pretty.”

    Summary

“I’m fine,” says Geralt, and he bares his bloodstained teeth as if to prove it. “I was fine before you got here, and I’ll be fine when you leave, too.”
“Leave?” says Eskel. “What, you think we’re gonna leave you in Kaer Trolde? Grow up, Geralt.”
Geralt scowls at him. “Yeah, you’re gonna leave.”

Or, Geralt goes off the deep end. Eskel and Lambert try to drag him back home.

    Summary

“And,” said Jaskier, focusing desperately on his words and not the odor, “There’s bound to be more curses besides.”

    “There are?” said Geralt.

“Gods, Geralt, yes, obviously there are. Have you spent these past centuries trapped in this forest with not a single thought flitting through your beautiful head?”

Geralt glared very shiftily at his boots, before muttering, “I’ve been busy. Lots of things to do here.”

Jaskier cast himself flat on his back and sighed very loudly.
