Generally, it took an average of 7-10 years for all of human cells to regenerate.
Sophia accidentally stumbled upon this fact a long time ago. She doesn’t care if it came from a lifestyle web article instead of an actual science journal. She doesn’t care if diving into cell regeneration as a heartbreak coping mechanism doesn’t even make any sense.
All she cares about is how it’s been six years. Six agonizing years trying to peel away the ghost of Marquise’s touch under her skin, and maybe, God help maybe, it will only take one more year until her entire body is reset and the memory of Marquise’s laugh ㅡ or how it vibrates beneath her chest ㅡ will eventually shed.
And she nearly succeeds, really. She’s starting something new with Daniela, something that feels like beginning-again and a sticky glue that might just hold the pieces of her heart together again.
Sophia is definitely not letting the fact that one summer day, on a crossroad intersection, Marquise appears again. Hair dark now, eyes cruelly the same. Holding Sophia’s stare like she has all the right in the world to. Like she never cries when she walks out the door. Like she never leaves.

Sophia is a journalist that has been stuck in the researcher position for ‘The Riff’, one of the biggest pop culture columns in L.A. during the last four years. She has tried every trick on the book to climb up the corporate ladder, and all of it has come with no luck. With higher living expenses but the same salary, the rope is starting to tighten around her neck. That is when after a vague comment, her best friend Megan showed her an ad: DOG SITTER FULL-TIME NEEDED.
Sophia almost laughed out loud, until Megan explained that this wasn’t any regular dog sitting position, but dog sitting for a burnout pop star that had decided to move to the middle of nowhere after a nasty divorce with one of Hollywood’s top actors.
A lot of theories came from the divorce: cheating, mistreatment, substance abuse, insanity. Nobody really had the answer. Joshua Abrams had come out the other side as the golden boy he’s always been perceived as, but Daniela Avanzini? She just vanished from the public eye.
