Summary
He had heard of trouble in a town thirty miles away from here, of a werewolf in the next village over (still fifteen miles away), and of plenty of good reasons to head west instead of east. Geralt had not heard any rumblings about Tuinder, so he had gone there.
But the moment he had set foot in the village, this polite old farmer had walked up to him and had asked about the two swords on his back. He had then made more assumptions than Geralt had given reassurances and had as good as demanded that Geralt follow him. Few people had ever been able to tell Geralt what to do, but recently he had been in a mood to be led. They had walked into the forest together.
Or: Geralt tries get away from everything and everyone, but they will not let him.

Summary
Life can be simple if you want it to be. You can paint with big brush strokes and move on before the paint is dry and you don’t have to look back if you don’t want to. That last bit is important—you are not to look back. No matter what.
Because if you don’t look back, what does it matter if part of the canvas has been left bare? If the colours clash? If the paint is smudged? With your back turned you will not be able to see this, and that is the point. The general shape is there. People can work out the rest, you don’t have to.
Take this case of the missing Stradivarius for instance.

Summary
The scab almost hidden under Clara’s cap itched and oozed, sticking to the wool and tugging whenever she turned her head. She would need another bandage for it – the last one had been lying crumpled on her pillow when she’d woken up, scabbed to it by the bloody mess she’d made in her sleep. But thinking about that, barter or scraping together enough coins to haunt the nearest pharmacy, had made her throat close and her eyes sting with stubbornly unshed tears.
Couldn’t it all just stop? Not just the bleeding, which seemed to go on forever from such a clean-edged cut. Not just the itching and stinging, but the prickle of new hair growing under her cap, the need for clean bandages and pillowcases, the ache she couldn’t seem to wrap tightly enough in her arms. The life that was growing and going on around her, even in her body, dragging her along while she was still trying to find her footing in it.

Summary
They’re all quiet for a moment, then Harry looks up at Jean and says, “Do you really think the Coalition would try to synthesize a biological agent from the phasmid?”
“Who knows, at this point,” Jean says. “I’m sure I’m just being paranoid, but on the other hand, they tried to have us killed.”Series

Summary
Daniil watched the bedroom curtains wafting in the breeze and tried to take them as proof. He had never seen their pale gold and russet pattern in what had proven to be only his dreams – they had only been a gently-blowing border of his world since he’d woken here, in Artemy’s own home, apparently in the very early stages of recovering from the Sand Pest.

Summary
“You keep doing this,” he says, accusing.
Artemy doesn’t look away, eyes chasing the faintest movement of Daniil’s, as though wanting to pin him in place like a beetle. “Doing what.”
Daniil’s gloved hand moves as if on its own accord, and traces a line up his throat, jaw, the side of his face and ear. To map him out, commit to memory. Ascertain that he’s real. That he’s here.
Daniil whispers, “Bringing me back.”
Or: Daniil learns to just live.
